I don’t believe they need to be jacked. We are in a severe drought with plenty of heat. I am witnessing the collapse of many Red Maples. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see a bunch of big oaks shut down this summer if we don’t get a tropical system soon.
Flowers that opened up yesterday: My Funny Valentine daylily (I do't know what that splotch is, it might be stress from no water), one lone yellow day lily and the yucca which has a stalk that is taller than I am. The black eyed Suzies have taken over the driveway garden (you can see the orange butterfly weed behind that has nearly gone by). The BES's are abundant on all three tiers of this garden, just this is the best picture. Most of the standard orange day lilies opened up a week ago but this bunch is shaded in the shrub garden so they are fresh. I cut back the winterberry limbs to uncover these last weekend and apparently that made them happy.
The daylilly bed is looking colorful. The 1st tiger lily blossom opened Driving around the area, I noticed Rose of Sharon in bloom. I looked closer at mine and a couple blossoms were opened. That's on a RoS bush planted about 10 years ago.
The RoS here has double pink flowers. Over the years, transplanted "sprouts" have had both white and pink flowers. This morning, I noticed a single flower on one of the newish sprouts I think the single flowers look better, IMO. The seeds that germinate, must be devolving away from what could be the hybrid mother plant. Whatever the cause, I'm happy about it.
A fewview of the yard from the deck. The bush/tree with pink flowers is a Rose of Sharon. Compare it to the hard pruning from this past December.
Thanks. That area gets morning sun, then shade the rest of the day. Any signs of flowers on your RoS?
I'm getting teeny tine buds on them! Hopefully the insects don't eat them - everything is getting chewed up worse than usaul. Probably because it is so dry here. I've even taken to watering the rock garden (part of the driveway garden). I've been watering where the RoH are 2-3 times a week.
