First gladioli yellow The intent of beds on side of concrete was easier to weed.. other side full of horse tail which is supposed to be rare but not in my yard
Jimson had 4 blooms this AM. And a busy bee doing its thing. Morning Glory’s will be ready for some color very soon.
Any ideas as to what’s happening with these lilacs? They have been in this spot for about 20 years. This spring the one put out just a couple leaves. Now it appears the others have some dying branches. I had intended to move them this summer but don’t want to totally kill them off. I think they were called blue bell or something like that they have dark blue /purple flowers that are different that the regular dime a dozen variety. I’m tempted to make some cuttings and try to root them.
Not sure how close your weather is to mine. But we're a fraction of an inch away from 20" of rain in June and July. This also leaves a big sunshine deficit!
Yes sir it’s been soggy here too. I had thought about that but seems most of the other plants/ bushes arnt taking it so hard.
Some hosta. Dusty Miller Always called them magic lillies. Hydrangea are almost done blooming. Need to thin some of these down.
I don't know many of the names, but this is lady fuelrod's flower garden. She's got it so something is always blooming.
That is beautiful. it is hard to plan to have something blooming all the time. Weather always plays a large part.
Some blooms from Saturday Not sure what this bush is that is turning yellow. It is beside a stump from last year's tree removal so may have been there before, just kept small from the shade and with sun got big enough to be noticeable. Not a fan of the drab yellowish - same color that all the junk maples back there turn.
Out of >50 stargazer lily bulbs that were in different places around the yard, these are the only two the voles missed.
Or chokeberry. I believe I have both in my yard (none were planted by me - and probably were planted by birds). This one doesn't have any berries so I can't tell. But, it would make sense that the trees are turning yellow because of all the rain - although why wait until now, when it has been a fairly dry 2 weeks, is beyond me.
I have determined the green bush to the left of the one that is turning, is a chokecherry. that one has berries in a long "raceme" as this website indicates. Since it isn't affected, that may mean the yellow one is chokeberry. But again, without any fruits to go by, that may not be the case.
Was out in the yard yesterday cutting back shrubs and smelled something sweet. Summersweet is appropriately named! It fascinates me how fast sumac grows. I didn't get a before picture, this is after cutting back a bunch of limbs/stalks on the right hand side so I can mow in between it and the lilac 3-4' away (out of picture) without being attacked. The sumac and a smallish maple right next to it were cut completely down over the winter by the power company. There wasn't a twig or leaf in sight after they were done. The base of the clump is at the bottom of the rock on the right. When I stand at that level, the top of the flag is about chin height (lets call it 4.5' ). I thought I had gotten the entire sumac in the picture, but evidently I didn't but the sumac has to be 9-10' tall anyway. Doesn't grow as fast as the Japanese knotweed that I am battling next door to keep it from crossing over onto my land, but still impressive.
Anyone ever hear of American groundnut? Interesting flower, hardly attractive, IMO. Grows as a vine. I'd consider it invasive. I guess I'll be pulling vines out as part of cleanup.
Jimson had 14 blooms last night. You could smell them from a pretty good distance. Each flower turns into a seed pod.
