I may have found a mulberry sapling up tight against a dying spruce tree. It may be a transplant project this weekend. More for the birds than me.
bogieb the two echinacea seedlings from your seeds are doing well. Maybe I'll get a flower or two this year. Some random other stuff, before it rains...
We planted some more flowers last night before the rain hits this weekend. Took a couple pics of rose bushes when I walked by.
I love roses. Unfortunately I can't grow them for sh*t. They decline and die within a a couple of years. Probably because I don't baby them with fertilizer or any winter protection. At my old place I was able to keep some old fashioned, once blooming roses going well. But, I had more room and some nice retaining walls that I could let them support themselves on. And, going back to find I had NO pictures of them, reminds me that they seemed to time their mass blooming during rain storms, where they would immediately ball up and drop. Yesterday I realized I only took one of the Azalea pictures. I have two within a few feet of each other, and they look like they are the same from a distance, but when you get up close, the flowers are different shapes: Gibraltar with 6 round-lobed petals Mandarin Lights with 5, classic star-shaped and slightly wavy petals. The thing I find interesting, is that when I bought them in 2017, the colors were not so close in hue. Gibraltar is on the left and Mandarin Lights is on the right (finding this picture is the reason I went to take a closer look at those yesterday).
Mock orange is in blossom. There is a robins nest in it, so I can't get the mower close to it. Ninebark is just showing too. Both are drooping from the heavy rain and winds we had yesterday. Had a solid 2" of much needed rain since Friday.
We ended up with about 3". We really needed it. The 45 degree temps and wind is another story... Meanwhile, a woodchuck was out in the wildflower patch when I was walking Holly this morning. I really had to keep a hold on her and she scared it under the barn. She easily could have caught it. This evening a rabbit was out munching in the same area. Holly needs to make here presence a bit more known to the critters.
Rhododendrons are carrying the flower flag in the area. Here's my 15footer And these things are in a perennial bed. Not sure what they are. They look nice while standing up straight. They'll be falling over any day now. For that reason, they will be donated to the compost bin. If they can't stand on their own, then out with them.
Ohhh! so many lovely gardens. Thanks for sharing all the pictures. Gives me hope that maybe I can do something similar.
