I've got some thistle to share if anyone wants some. I let these grow for the goldfinches. Once picked over, I'll cut them down. This is really about the only new blossoms I have going on. Lack of rain is taking a toll.
I'd love to have a couple too, but I'll probably need to buy them locally.. unless I were to drive out east again....
I pulled 5 gallons of sedge out of the wildflower bed this morning. They are easy to spot and remove with shallow roots. I also removed some tall unidentified weeds and lots of plants getting nibbled on here from woodchuck, rabbits and deer.
I found these Indian pipes or ghost plants out back. The have no chlorophyll or use photosynthesis. Members of the blueberry family. They are fading by or the lack of rain is causing the darkness.
Jon - Those Indian Pipes are amazing and spooky looking at the same time. Molly - baby phlox are just the cutest!
I was looking at the pink one in the foreground - looks like it has a leader on it, but maybe that part is a verbena that has a flower out of the picture.
I've lived in this house for 30 years. I've planted bulbs every fall for 30 years. I'm digging up a bed, and I've got a bucket of survivors! I'll sort them out, and replant like with like. See what comes up in the spring.
Saw 2 of the good guys on my salvia today while watering. Think they were going after the bumblebees. One green, one brown.
