I don't think I've ever grown lantana (I do't have any in my pictures going back to 2010 anyway), so it can't be a favorite. Might be because it is an annual up this way? I don't normally plant annuals in my gaden beds (except vegetables)
I posted this picture of one of the peonies foliage already - taken 5-13-20 (all other pictures taken evening of 5/22/20) 9 Days later the foliage is taking off - mostly due to the 3 or 4 warm days we had. I was shocked when I saw how they had all grown to at least 18" high in such a short time. All the creeping phlox along the driveway has burst into bloom. I can't believe how long the darker flowers have held on - that plant was in full bloom on 5/8/20 while all the rest of the phlox was just setting buds. . Just a couple of days ago there were only sporadic phlox blooms along the front of the house All the creeping phlox has introduced a pleasant, but not overpowering scent into the air - one of the reasons it is a favorite of mine.
It always surprises, and delights me how much better gardens look with fresh mulch - it just makes everything pop out Flowering almonds that were here when I bought the house. I usually manage to miss thier blooms, but caught them this time I have mowed the elderly neighbor's yard for the last several years. I'm doing the same this year, but decided to do some clean up first. His yard was exceptionally filled with tree limbs, to go along with the existing piles of "things" that I have just mowed around previously. In one pile I found two older metal bird feeders. The bottom of this lighthouse style feeder had completely rotted out. After cleaning it up I decided it would do nicely as a topper to a clematis trellis.
I think they are the same thing T.Jeff Veal Maybe I should try some. I really try to stick with zone 4 stuff, but I'll bet I could find a sheltered area for some of those.
Nice pics everyone. The weather sure has has been helping things grow. We need rain here in New England. I've been spending time taking pics on our daughters digital camera. This evening was different honey bee pics. One pic was on the cell phone of Columbine. I don't have many flowers going on here. I have four areas of lawn that I'm letting grow tall for wildlife. A woodchuck was in the clover stuffing his face.
We have about 6 Jack in the pulpits here near the foundation of all places. I read that they usually grow a single plant and clusters are not common. Not much to see, but interesting. An invasive honeysuckle. Loaded with honey bees today, so it stays. Smells great too.
