Love that stuff; especially with the sawdust and chips mixed in! City people pay for that stuff:loco:

We went back to Home Depot yesterday and picked up 20 more bags of mulch at 5 for $10. Then it snowed most of today, but melted and we spread those 20 bags this afternoon. Always moving forward.

Was it Scott's mulch? I see the 1.5cuft bags for $2.00 each. The more genetic brand is the same price, but a full 2cuft/bag at Lowes.

    Shrinkflation

We're fortunate to have both stores nearby. Screenshot_20250413-053908_Chrome.jpg

My first flowers of spring. Just a couple of narcissus - the only ones to bloom so far. Most are setting buds, although they are still fully encased by green foliage, not showing color like the advanced bud in the picture. And English Primrose. I do have a couple of hyacinth with buds.

No flower, just foliage. Don't want any flowers from here.

Rhubarb clumps (5) are looking good.

Rhodos are happy this spring. They didn’t bloom last year, assuming because of droughts.

The Giant hyacinths are blooming. For some reason, the pink haven't appeared yet. Pictures taken yesterday (4/24/25)

One of my wife’s bleeding hearts. This is the third season for this particular one in this spot. In my flower bed I planted the North American native cousin to this species (Dutchman’s Breeches) which should emerge in a couple weeks.

Mayapples that recently popped up, (another native):
    IMG_5074.jpeg
Ramps are peaking, which I just started harvesting this year:
    IMG_5073.jpeg
Daffodils in peak bloom, with some clumps of native Mapleleaf viburnum leafing out:
    IMG_5072.jpeg
Native red trillium. I smothered this area with wood chips last summer and was worried that some of the spring ephemerals wouldn’t poke through, but lucked out:

A patch of Baby's Breath. It pre-dates our ownership which was 1982.

Things are starting to pop up and show some color up here. Daffodils are just opening in the front yard, hyacinths are opening up everywhere, and tulips are not going to be far behind.

We read somewhere about planting tulips and daffodils around fruit trees to discourage some pest larvae from getting to the trees, so we added rings around our old pear and apple trees in the backyard. IMG_5752.jpeg

The North end of the house is the overflow garden with 6 varieties of tulips totaling 300. There’s also 300 hyacinths, and almost as many daffodils from our adopted grandparents who have an old house as well. IMG_5749.jpeg

My wife’s low maintenance native perennial garden is showing signs of life. She needs to weed it before things get too big, but it fills in and plants bloom from now until late fall. So far it’s only the asters if I remember correctly. IMG_5751.jpeg IMG_5750.jpeg
I’ll try and remember to take photos as more things start to bloom.
