I got the saw back, it was ready a few days ago but somehow I missed the message. A simple fix, the fuel line and fuel filter got stuck in a corner of the fuel tank, so when the saw was turned sideways, no fuel was getting to the carburetor. Same thing as happened to MAF143. The service guy said it was a rare thing, but apparently not too rare!

I thought your symptoms sounded aweful familiar... glad it wasn't anything major. But since it was warranty...

Now, can I talk you into a muffler mod??? My MS-250 responded very well to it...

Glad you have it back and running. :dex: :saw:

    Thanks!
A muffler mod, hmmm... I thought that was only for big saws.

it turns little saws into big (a little bigger) saws... LOL it all helps. A good file and a steady hand is the best performance enhancement though.

I'd not have a muffler mod, while the saw is under warranty.

I’ve got a Husky 142 that took a very simple mod and it made a big difference. The power change was big. Keep it in mind when the warranty is gone.

I couldn't wait for the warranty to expire... LOL Let' er rip... I did my own MM on both saws and it was easy. Each saw took about half an hour or so. I'm very happy with the results. The internet has tons of DIY MMs. I'm not too concerned with looks, just results.

Midwinter, I'm so happy your saw is working well again. I know mine has been a workhorse around the farm here and it was light enough I used it a lot this summer with my bum leg. If you make it to Walt's GTG again next year, I'll bring my 250 with me so you can check out the MM on it.

Actually I did a MM on the 55 rancher too while I was fixing it up. I never ran it before so I can't speak to a difference but I'm sure it helps. It was a gift from a friend that was having trouble getting it started and knows that I'll come cut anything in his yard for him anytime. It needed a little TLC. Since I have joined FHC I've learned enough about chainsaws to not be afraid to just dive in and fix them myself.

Just beware that a MM will make your saw a little less tolerable for the neighbors Midwinter ...but after being around all those hot saws at Walts, I'm sure you are aware.
I'm planning on opening up the muffler on my 290 at some point...but I won't get too carried away with it because I don't want to live with a screaming loud saw forever more...

Thanks for all the muffler mod advice! It has a 2 year warranty, and I bought it in September, so I've got a long time under warranty still.
I'm looking forward to taking it out to WeldrDave's, and cutting some sugar maple trunks on the ground. So far the 250 has only cut red oak.

Glad it was a simple fix Midwinter. I cut cords and cords and cords with my 250. It's in retirement now that I have some bigger saws.
