Got it up to about 875 degrees and maintained that temperature until the sealer cured. I found the number one complaint with Mil-pac black is the terrible smell and copious amounts of smoke until it cures. Rolled the thing back outside and spent all afternoon burning the sealer off until it quit smoking. Damper works as it should. I like it when a plan comes together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
First fire Handshake to all of you for your help with restoring this old Fisher insert. Finally I can relax a little and warm my feet. Also we can cook and stay warm if we lose power. Hope anyone who has the same setup finds this information useful. This site was fuel for my ideas on attaching this old insert to a flue liner. I can use the damper as designed by Fisher.
I picked up a Fisher insert for the house but haven't installed it yet. The chimney sweep wanted big $$ to install so that's out.
