same here. i got to get after it before it disappears! only thing I've done so far with hickory is make a bowl and stink the house up with shavings...
Sorry, I stayed under the radar. In fact, I don't recall there being any radar...campus, or town cops. Pretty much do as you please during the mid 70's, I never got carded. Maybe the drinking age was 18 back then, anyway.
My father-in-law lives just outside of Nashville, IN. First time I went there was this past October, never been to Indiana before. Reminded me a lot of here in Vermont. I'll be back in a couple of months, as he's finally decided to move back here to Vermont. Definitely a nice place though.
Well I finally got back after it yesterday, it's been really wet and it won't freeze up and I've been a bit stir crazy being kept inside. Last time I was out I was only able to cut the one stem of this tree because the other side had some entanglement issues with a neighboring tree. After determining it was well stuck in place and not having a good way to get it down, I decided to let it come down on its own. Between then and yesterday it had come down, so it was time to get to work on it. Before getting after the shag though I went up top and gathered a load of black locust, our black locust seems to be dying out here the past few years and we have a ton of it around so I've been cutting a bunch of it. Alot of this stuff came pre-split, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. After unloading that into the barn I went out after shag Another round of lugging these heavy suckers over to the hill, letting them roll down to the creek, and then up out of the creek, then into the truck, and into the barn, to be split later. All efficient like It was still pretty wet out and I had no problem finding mud, didnt get stuck but left some ruts to fix later. Now I've got a pretty good "to be split" pile to get after. Probably won't be getting out again for a while as were expecting our son any day now and I likely won't be interested in anything else but that. On a side note, after admiring the growth rings in this wood I sliced a piece off and counted 88 rings from outside to middle. For a tree only 13 inches in diameter I was somewhat surprised, one section had over 20 rings in one inch.
Congratulations on becoming a dad! And good job getting some wood home, to work on in your odd free moments. Still gotta hoard!
Nice looking wood, bit of work to retrieve it, but when your jonesing to hoard, uh i mean cut wood, there is no stopping! Love the barn...wood will stay good indefinate!
