James, just my .02. I really don't think a ported saw is a good idea for a 10yr old as a first saw. Even if it is 30 something cc. Last they need is extended rpm. Just thinking out loud, no offense intended.

I started my son at 13. Every kid/situation is different. @ his 1st gtg around age 14, he was cookie cutting and loaded the saw better than one of the white haired guys there... It's all how you teach it. Nice and slow to start IMO.

I looked at the little 120i husky. Your comment about the chain stopping instantly when the trigger is released sounded good to me.

If you are referring to my post, its no longer ported. New stock OEM top end as described.

Gotcha. Then let me change it to: modified for performance enhancement.

Yes. A little. Muffler and timing. I get where you are coming from. If it were ported I never would have brought it up. Performance wise, fully stock, they claim the same power as a Stihl ms201. 2.3 hp and 13,5000 rpm. They are pretty jazzy completely un modded.

I wouldn't let a 10 year old run a saw even if I was there. Too much can go wrong too fast and given the size of a 10 year old if something does go south your probably looking at a fatality or amputation. Not to mention CPS at your door. 13-15 years old seems more appropriate to me ymmv.

I'm going to agree with the majority here. She will have to wait a couple more years.
Thank you to all who commented.

For what it’s worth I wouldn’t let anybody tell me how to raise my children. My 7 yo is smarter and more situationally aware than most of the “adults” I know. Experience is the best teacher. As long as you are by her side she should be fine if she has the discipline to handle weapons. I learned how to drive a car in a field sitting on pillows and blocks ductaped to the pedals. It’s time for people to raise lions not sheep!
