Had to move the outside window struts.....oooooppps. No biggie.
Looks better and makes a much stronger support for the windows.
All the south window supports are set and ready.

Hung the fascia on the north roof. Had a couple of 1x4s that I didn't use
so I whipped up some crown mold drip cap. Looks better than sheet metal.
Thunderstorm moved in so had to button it up.

The ties that bind. This door hung in the basement for 65+ years, from the
day my dad installed it. My family and I walked thru this door thousands of times.

    IMG_6749.JPG

I took it out last summer and installed a new, insulated door. It was time.
Like so many things I have changed about this house, I just couldn't toss it out.
Today, it got a new life. A new beginning. I am my father's son. Waste not, want not.

    IMG_7864.JPG IMG_7870.JPG

It's perfect in it's new home.

Very nice project going on there. Nice repurpose on the door.

My dad had a green house on the side of his shed when I was young. I used to really like going in it in the very early spring and enjoying the warmth and mossy smell of the wet brick flooring. It was made of old triple track storm windows and worked well until my friend stepped through one of the panes.

I'd love to go there some time, awesome you could shop in one!!

Did you happen to catch the coverage on the Windsor tornado last night? Spooky stuff, I had driven from NW of FTC to Brighton for work and spent my lunch hour in the basement of the Brighton municipal building doing genealogy research when the tornado went over.

My first Menards. It is like a super Target,
a HomeDepot and Hughy Woods in one.
I didn't do any "shopping". Just found my stuff
and back on the road. I will say that the
    service was excellent.

    Just happen to stumble
across the fact they are partnered w/Amerilux,
    company that makes the polycard.
    Free shipping to the store.

Besides the door, last weekend when it was raining I threw together
some insulated covers for vents in the south knee wall. Just foam insulation
sandwiched in some 1/4" plywood. Liquid nails and brads. I will use some
foam weather strip on the outside when I mount them.

Decided to have a first go at the polycarb w/the windows. So far, so good.
Cut 2x2s out of cedar. 5/8" dado to accept the poly. A lot of milling to get them ready.
Had to cut weep holes at the bottoms of each. I really don't think they will
create that much condensation...but, as they say, better to have them and not need
    them.....than.......

    IMG_7902.JPG

    IMG_7905.JPG

I thought I would screw the frames together at the joints. Not
a good plan. Cedar much too soft and not enough material. So, need to get
out of the box on this one. Kreg pocket holes. By adjusting the jig guide and the
depth of the hole, I can screw the frames to the studs from the inside. So, I dry fit
the windows into the holes. Bingo!

    IMG_7899.JPG

    IMG_7900.JPG

Frames got a coat of water seal and should get installed tomorrow.
Final operation for today was the panel prep. Used compressed air to blow
out each of the flutes. The tops have to be sealed so bugs can not get in.
The bottoms are covered w/the vent tape that you get with
the panel. It allows air to get in, water to get out and keeps bugs out.

Another good day. Three of the windows are installed. Decided that the bottom window
on the east needs to open. So it will need some special attention.
    IMG_7913.JPG
Again, just so impressed w/the Kreg pocket holes.
I fit the frames onto the poly and slid them into the opening.
Shimmed them to fit the way I wanted and set the pocket screws. Rock solid!

    IMG_7923.JPG

Decided to get the insulation/visqueen chore over with. Not too bad.
Been storing that bundle of stuff for 19yrs. Did almost the whole thing.
Will finish the little stuff that is left w/a sheet of foam. Much nicer to work with.

Moving along. Insulation is just about done. South knee wall paneled w/some
1/4" plywood I got for scrolling. It will not be seen once the plant beds are in.
Opening window came together very well. Once I figure trim, it will be installed
w/stop and foam weather stripping. Time to get busy.

Really a fun day. Finished the insulation and visqueen.

A year ago, on June 8, we got hit w/an amazing hail storm.
We got a new roof on the house and garage.....a real blessing.
As I always do, kept some of the scraps.....just incase I might need them.
The garage is a flat roof. Did not have enough of either the peel/stick or
shingles to do the whole roof. My wife said, "Can't you use both?"
Well there's an out of the box idea. Yes I can. Had just enough of both
to do the job. ......and if I do say so, it is perfect. We both love the way it came out.
It fits the eclecticism of this greenhouse perfectly.

Polycarb is cut and ready to install.

Today was sort of like pay day. ......when you get a reward for hard work.
I got paid very well today. ......I worked for it, though.
Polycarb is up. It was a challenge.
If you every work w/this.....when it comes time to set it, be prepared to
lay your tools down.....walk away for a few......

So the hype on this polycarb is it defuses the light.
When I was standing inside when there was direct sunlight, 80F...…
did not feel the heat on my skin like it was in direct sunlight.
But, it does get warm in there in a hurry.

    Could not be more pleased.
