How many have had their first fire already season? We had our first one this past weekend. Tried something different this year. To get the stove warm I put about six lit candles in the stove to warm up the box. I left them burn for while, once the stove was warm I started the fire. No draft problems what so ever. Threw a nice load of boxelder on at bed time, woke up early in the morning and threw a couple more splits on the coals so my wife could wake up to a nice warm bedroom. Can't wait until we can burn all day.
I've built three fires so far: one to get rid of most of the paint smell, one because it was cold, and one to make sure I realigned the door pins properly.
We have a wood hot water boiler so my husband burns all year round. This time of the year with the south east winds starting to blow, he has to start burning every 2 to 3 days instead of 5. Not the same as a wood stove but it keeps the house warm and supplies lots of hot water.
Geez, I have been burning here straight for the past 3 weeks. Its been cold here a month early this year. Snow level is coming way down tonight, and there is a frost warning up for tonight. Its 38 outside right now, and 71 inside. I am burning my red cedar and alder shoulder wood.
My stove is almost ready to go, just finished the mortar last night. Now I gota get a few lending hands to move the stove onto the hearth.
Amazingly, no yet. Usually been firing for 3 weeks by now. New triple pane windows and doors making a big difference already. This week still forcast above normal. I'm sure we're not far away though.
I bet those windows and doors will make a big difference. We are waiting for a new back door to come in. The old one was put in by my FIL when my wife rented the house from him. He's a good man....just not a good carpenter. LOL
