Latest first fire I have had since I started burning wood six years ago. Last year, at this point, I had probably gone through two cord of wood playing with the new stoves.
I burned a few small splits Saturday night. Going to be 40's for high and 30's for lows the next few days so I will burn some. I normally don't burn until mid November.
Unseasonably cold here (upper 20's low 30's) this week. Burned every night since Saturday, but just a small one.
It seemed a little later than normal for my first burn here. This cold snap coming is a little earlier than normal though for a little day and night burning. I'm def ready for it!!
No fire tonight. I'm not complaining. But, starting tomorrow, it looks like burning season begins. Mid to low 50s with lows in the 30s for the next 10 days, at least. That's enough for one stove to be going.
This weather is perfect. Lows in the 30s...perfect stove weather without having to work too hard on feeding the thing....2 or 3 splits at a very relaxed burning rate...let go to coals, rinse, repeat. No need for super high output this time of year.
600 in a Mansfield would put out a bunch of heat. My brother has an old Hearthstone I....the 1970s equivalent of an Equinox in size. That sucker pumps heat too.
I love that we can leisurely burn and keep warm this time of year. Come January cold and you have to work a lot harder with that stove sucking up fuel.
