It looks tall, but when I remove the top 3' section? The open flue is about abdomen height. So it's very easy to clean this way.

Plus, removing the cap is harder than removing the top section in my Simpson Class A. Win - Win!!

Yeah I know of someone that had a 12' chimney on a Drolet Tundra furnace...and so so performance...I talked him into going another 3' higher...he was totally floored at how much better it ran

Thanks. That load was about spent. Gonna let it burn down for another hour and reload.

And those were 3 small splits. I normally use bigger splits, but we are just hanging out watching TV. So I don't mind going down there more often.

Don't reckon I've seen this pic before, but that is EPIC. Just beautiful, and the chimney is great too:thumbs:

When I added 3' I was disappointed at first. It changed the cold starts so I had to figure that out. (almost took it off) But when it came time to burn 24-7 I was amazed at how much quicker hot reloads took off.

It's about 3 years old. But I was looking for an older pic when it was only 15' and couldn't find it. So this was the first pic at 18' I came to.

It really does take a little while to notice. But if she burns in that stove as is, for a week or two and adds it? She is guaranteed to notice the difference. Especially as little as it is now. :)

It's nice to see your up and running with your new stove and system! Congratulations!

As for your chimney height (sorry guys) but it is at the height that is appropriate for your home as well as for your stove. I promise, once you become accustomed to the idiosyncrasies of your system, you will have no problem running it to whatever temperature.

My chimney total height from the floor the stove sits on to the top of the chimney is but a mere 12 feet and I have absolutely no problem with draft. I also have the outside air kit which I would highly recommend you get and install. Then you may find wind can have an affect so protect the opening from direct wind.

I've wondered if I could somehow attach a 3' section of DW pipe atop our block and flue liner chimney(6" square terra cotta) to increase the draft for when I re-install the Vogelzang Performer....
    Any thoughts?
We currently have 20' or so from thimble to crown. Center of the house. 6' in the attic gets cooled down some I'm sure, and 4' out the roof.

They make an adapter for that... I'll see if I can find a pic of one.
That already sounds like plenty of height though...
Not if the manual calls for 15' it is not...especially if there is a bad smoke rollout issue on reloads (with a window cracked, or OAK installed)

Looking at those stove pipe pics it still looks to me like there could have been (2) 45s installed instead of the one 90 above the stove...that would help draft and smoke rollout too

OK, but I was wanting to keep the burn under control while I was learning.

Sounds like the old adage that moss only grows on one side of the tree. :cough : BS

Unfortunately there are a lot of pills sayings that are not true.

    Is your 12' straight up?

You must remember, Kim has an up, out, and up install. The two 90's really diminish draft.

I agree on that; will probably need some help doing so. The chimney comes up the side of the house opposite the gable end.

Yeah, agreed. I'm not bound to things like that line of thinking. Shoot, when I joined here over a year ago, I was still carrying his thoughts about dry times for firewood:faint:
Now he subscribes to what I've shared with him about what I've learned from y'all here:thumbs:
