I'll read reviews of products I'm considering to buy also and just have to laugh out loud at a lot of them.

    Typical useless review.........

"I give this 5 out of 5 stars. I just got this cordless drill home and it's great! Nice looking! I can't wait to use it!" :picard:

Not having burned a full season yet, I'm not sure what normal is. And I'm not sure how accurate our cord count was for the first half of 21. Now we have a measured rack we fill and empty, so we're going to have a much more realistic idea what a cord/year looks like come May/June.
We went through 2.3C September to end of year. I bet we're going through a cord a month during the coldest. So 2 or more by May, 5 for the season?

I usually count a cord per month for January and February. Think Im just a tad over half cord for January so far. But month isnt done yet.

Any temp that causes the oil burner to light up, is the temp for burning my red oak.

About a cord and a half here. Almost to the halfway point so I’d say on pace to burn 3 cords this winter give or take. I burn October- April. I was below average until this recent cold spell - now seems like I’m going through a lot but should average out.

Was on track for less use this season with warmer temps in November/December. But with colder temperatures in January and the fact that I am around to burn the stove all day now we may hit average by seasons end.

Best guess would be 4 cords so far hopefully only about 2 cords left.

    This ^^^^^^.

We were spending $2000 on HHO, and another $500 on kerosene a couple years ago. With present oil prices, that would have been $3300, and $600+for kero this season.

Last winter I bet we saved $1000, this winter $3900, not including the electric to run the furnace....so $4900+ not spent on oil/kero/electric in an 18 month period.
The stove cost $4-5k (stove, liner and its install, new saw, extra gas for the truck, misc equipment replace, fuel for splitter/saws, new parts for the stove including extras for a rainy day).
This fall I estimate we break even.
I never thought of a wood stove as a hedge against inflation.....but as electric/HHO prices go up, the break even point is closer yet.
Nevermind that we are actually warm here now, can cook on it....

I’d say it’s been a colder year in Ct. not sure what the bean counters would say. I’d say I burned about half a cord so far. I like it chilly in the house. Must be trying to preserve myself or something. Was 45 in the kitchen this morning. Opposite side of the house from the stove. That’s a little chilly but not that bad.

We have been burning wood for 40 years. I don't know how much we have saved in $$$ but in oil use we have dropped our usage from about 600 gallons per year to less than 150 gallons per year. The 600 gallon usage was from our first couple of years living here before we got a wood stove. By burning wood we have avoided burning at least 18,000 gallons of #2HHO. I think that has paid for my saws, splitter, hand tools, garden tractor etc.

Funny thing though....we tossed the oil burner, put in a gasser, and a wood stove a few weeks later. When we sell, they'll ask what our heating costs are, and we'll have no idea.
"No idea, we never used it"
Or "the place is super efficient, $30/month all winter".....

Just tell them there is a one time cost of $10k to buy all your wood cutting equipment and $20 per month for fuel and maintenance. Other than that, they will have no additional heating expenses…

Took some rough measurements and I guess I have burnt 1.5 to 2 cords so far.

I am a little over 2 cords used now (about 7 skids worth). Pretty typical for this time of year. I usually end up around 10-12 skids worth of wood. I dont have alot of insulation in my house and i also keep it at 70F at night and 75F during the day, so pretty warm.
