Thank you for caring and trying. If you help save one person's life, and Jesus saves their soul, all your efforts will be worth it. Keep the faith and I pray for y'all to have strength for the journey.
I remember when I first started heating with wood, out of pure emergency need mind you, and was dooped by a seller who did not know what they were talking about. I would like to think that he did not do it on purpose, rather he may have just been as ill-informed as I was (before joining this fine group), but he was trying to make the sale by claiming that his wood was superior because it was "just chopped yesterday" and had not been "sitting out in the weather". I, honestly, think it was more of an ignorance thing rather than anything nefarious, but you can't run a wood stove efficiently with "ignorance."
HC, I agree to some extent here but I also have to respond to stupidity! There are guy's, "oooops" sorry ladies, folks who grab a chainsaw and cut or clear a lot and sell wood. Where I live there are 12 campgrounds in a 5 mile radius and people will buy "anything" that will burn to have a campfire, green, rotten, it doesn't matter. Now, these people also only care about 1 thing.... $$$ . Most folks/people "KNOW" you need dry wood for a wood stove or fireplace and few don't. The best think you can do is question them. If they tell you it's seasoned ask them how long and where did they store it. Also for how long? I've seen some BU!!$#!T with these clowns. If the wood isn't grey, tell them to "Go away"...
I love it!! Where my ignorance came into it was that I knew you would need "dry" wood, but I didn't know the difference between "seasoned" and "dry". Once again in this life, if I only knew then what I know now.....
Spoke with 2 of the local firewood sellers. Both have sold all their available product for this year.
My cousin said her employer bought a new super-duper processor, so they can keep up with demand. He has an inventory of actual seasoned wood, so when they run out for a season, they don’t dig into the newer stuff. He started doing firewood to keep his employees busy during slow times on his other business, to ensure he didn’t have to lay them off and lose them. Turned out to be another full time job.
