Firewood/pellet usage. How much are you going through when it gets real cold?

This is a big factor with me. Two things to consider for us all. Leaving insulation factor out.

    1. Heat load.
    2. Wood type.

Using what I have on the property. Ash, White Pine, White Spruce. I think I have some Maple further back in the stash this season too. But the wood BTU content sure is a factor in how much we all burn.

You folks with Oak, Locust, Beech, etc. are in nice shape. I'm not complaining about my wood source. It just takes a little more wood to do the job.

I've burned 1/6 cord since Saturday, according to the empty rack in my garage. That's one stuffed full load, plus 1/2-2/3 to get thru to the next full one. Plus a few loads in the furnace, to warm up the basement the last couple of days.

Can't wait till summer. I do love the comfort that my stove provides, the $ savings, and everything else that goes with it, but I'd rather sit outside with a cold beer.

You know I wasn't even thinking about that. But now I have a craving for a beer. I think I will have one later. But I won't be sitting outside with it! LOL

Today's high was 19F, tonight's low is going to be near 0F. Wind is out of the NNW at about 20 knots. In weather like this I burn 3 or 4 loads of oak upstairs, about 1.5 cf/load. 6 cf/day or a third of a cord a week. I'm also burning about 40 pounds of anthracite coal a day.

That's about 45,000 BTUs of wood heat and 22,000 BTUs of coal heat per hour. My 225,000 BTU/hour boiler sits idle.

Feels good to have that boiler sit idle doesn't it KaptJaq?

About 3 to 4 loads a day. I use a 18 gallon rubbermaid container. Will figure out cubic feet later. Off to work for some more trouble room training:headbang:
