We got another load yesterday afternoon. 1214211740a_HDR.jpg
I did grab the 2 elm logs. White oak, hickory, mostly. Had too much on here, trailer didn't want to dump it. Had to get a pry bar and help get it started. It has dumped 4 tons of sand before...:bug:
And it had a fresh charge on the battery. 1214211740_HDR.jpg
Did find another ash log... 1214211741.jpg

    naw, we just think alike...lol
We didn't have any ash growing on our place. And since we have been dealing with firewood, we haven't gotten any. We got some ash lumber one time at dad's furniture shop...

Always exciting to cut a wood youve never had before. I think you will like it.

Ill refrain from any first ash comments and leave that to the rest of the guys!

Great score. Over the years I've become pretty picky with what I scrounge and I'd scrounge 100% of that stuff. Straight logs = straight perfect stacks that don't fall over!

Although ash may not be a top BTU wood like the oak and hickory, it's still a great wood. Seasons fast, doesn't get all trashy and dirty like my siberian elm does, and it gets going quick in the stove.

I understand your excitement about ash. We all have to understand what’s rare in everyone’s area.
I bet Jeff has burned oak a million times. But ash is special.
    For me it’s beech.

Yea sir. It was a big load. The trailer has really good brakes on it. I drove slow too.

We went back yesterday to the honey hole. Got another load of 10 1/2' logs for us. Found more barkless hickory, white and red oak. 1215211305_HDR.jpg
I went a little lighter on this load, dumped fine. 1215211309_HDR.jpg
My friend Chris went with me. They burn wood too. We got them a load of the smaller cutoffs and have some more smaller pieces set aside. 1215211606.jpg

It's a good drive, probably close to 20 miles, 1 way. But it is some really nice logs, way better than some of the tree service stuff we got. And there is probably at least 3 more trailer loads to get...

Since I know what to look for, I've seen some more in another pile...
To bad sweet gum doesn't split and burn better. He has a TON of that too.

If it's been in a pile uncovered for a while, it might be starting to get lite.

Most people who don't look up or those that do and not really familiar with leaves will just say it's a hickory. At first glance I can easily see it, but once you know what it is you can tell pretty easy.
