Lol, old folks homes are pricy I might not have the money for an added expense like that! I'll be like oh yeah remember the firewood fiasco of 2015 gramps? Paybacks a b#tch.
My guess is that they wanted it gone Pronto. 7 ash trees that big takes alot of time and work to move the weight. Lots of people don't want to look at 10 plus cords of logs laying around while you work to make them disappear. My dad is 1 of 'em too. Don't feel bad. Had to beg for this ash in his yard. Saved him some big $, and he still wants it gone yestersay. Sometimes ya just bite your tounge and crack a beer.
A couple cases of barley pop and some hot sammiches at lunch time to the tree service guys probably would have resulted in them doing the work and dropping that stuff in your yard. They probably just dumped it somewhere anyway.
Major Violation- no ifs/ands/buts. Malicious intent....or stone ignorance by FIL(?) -I might have been sleeping on the couch this Xmas, on principal.
They could have thought about their daughter and how much warmth she would get from the wood. However, inlaws, ... I have never had any but I know stories from my brothers and sisters on their inlaws.
I had to watch some really nice wood get ground into mulch; no way I could have gotten any of it. It was painful to watch.
I did not see where he said he felt they owed him the wood. He is married to their daughter so even if they don't give a chit about him you think they would consider their daughter, she is warming her behind in front of the fire that the wood would have provided after all. Money not spent on fuel is money he can use to provide for his family and give them a little extra than just the basics.
I guess my first question is do you have the gear to move/process that amount of wood in a timely fashion?(IE truck/big trailer) I assume you don't have either since you asked to borrow the FIL's truck to pick up a couch. What is the plan to move the wood and how far is their house? If you have a way to move/process all of it in a timely fashion I say shame on them for not thinking about you. If the wood was going to have to sit over the holidays maybe they didn't want to look at the mess. If a family member didn't think of me I'd be bent! Just about everyone close to me from family to friends thinks about me, I've scored a lot of wood that way over the years. I also have a way to move it quickly when they call.
I'm not judging him harshly at all, just giving my opinion, which is what he asked for in the first post. I don't mind if my thoughts run contrary to most. Life is too short to let little things wreck your day.
It's best to b!tch about this to us, and not mention it to your wife. Vent away brother! We understand
I'd find out the name of the tree service and find out what they did with the wood. Maybe they would be happy to let you have it. I know a few outfits like that near me. Worth the call if you ask me.
What ever the reason was that they didn't talk to you about the wood is now behind you. I can see your frustration and venting here is good. Out in the world with your wife and in-laws make sure you are the bigger man. Learn from it and move on. As was said befote life is too short.
The good thing about inlaws is you don't have to live with them . Besides, if you are clever you can think of ways to have a bit of fun with them without upsetting your wife on those times you are required to visit with them.
Quite happy with the fact that at this point in my life I only have a couple of sets of Out-laws ..............................
I'm glad I've never met my in-laws. They sound like horrible people. Well at least MIL is horrible. FIL I could deal with as he likes many of the things I'm interested in, but these are people that by have way more $ than sense.
