Our vet told us that ruger had a partially torn acl when he was less than a year old. (Would need surgery, recovery, big money blah blah blah...) 2-3 weeks later, he was fine and hasn't had any problems since... I think "acl" injuries a just a new money maker.
I was a veterinarian assistant for 10 years after having assisted on a fair amount of tplo surgeries and seeing the damage in the knees first hand I can tell you they are not a scam. Now that being said a partially torn ACL can and will heal on its own depending on the size of the dog and activity level. But a fully torn ACL has no chance of healing on its own and does require surgery to fix
Great to have your experience here, Redneck. Here's my thing. Can you see a torn acl on an xray? Or just a ct scan? Or neither? Or both? My vet didn't do either.
You can't see it on x-rays. If you did a MRI you could, but you can tell if it's torn just by palpating The joint. We would take X-rays of the knees before surgery to get the pre angle and then x-rays after the surgery to make sure he rotated the bone far enough.
Couldn't have that here as learned we have an endangered lizard on our property. But nice looking dog.
This is the thread I like.... My first boy, Clyde, lost him in 2016 after 14 years. My second boy, Roscoe. He was a rescue from Missouri. Got him back Sept 2018. He was 10 months. We are camping in this pictures. It rained the entire week. I'm sitting under the awning throwing the ball for him. The tail was going 100 mph.
LOL, yep Clyde was a good one. He always had that ear cocked back, checkin' his six. I could never sneak up on him.
Got out on a beautiful NE Nevada day. Cut up a cord of pinion/juniper with a huge help from my daughter and Bailey.
Shes not a dog, but she sure acts like one. Here's one for yah, she always helps me when out doing chores, Including firewood.
