I read a lot of Encyclopedia Brown as a kid. Hahahahaha. And the complete Sherlock Holmes. I never once chopped wood as a kid with an axe. For shame.
Hmm... is that what I'm doing wrong, bags instead of boxes? Given the current shortage of trucks & drivers, along with insane fuel costs it seems like it would be more practical to source wood from a bit closer? Meh what do I know, I'm just a firewood hack lol.
I totally agree. A resourceful person can find endless amounts of pine firewood, within 5 miles of that store I was in.
"A resourceful person"...these are the same people that think milk, cheese, meat, and veggies just come from "the store"
I think it's pretty sad that a lot of people don't do things on their own anymore and just pay someone to do it. Just the journey of learning something new and getting a job done with your own hands - now that's what I call satisfaction. Doesn't matter how big or small the job is and getting help from others is nothing to be ashamed of. It's a dying art form. Everyone is so concerned about making money these days instead of improving their knowledge. There are people out there willing to teach - unless you're figuring out cold fusion I'm pretty sure someone has posted a video or chatted on a forum about whatever it is you want to learn about. You're not going to be the first person with a clogged drain, a broken axe handle, or in need of replacing a light switch. I have never gutted an animal, have never hunted, have never fired a shotgun - but I would love to experience that. Having done the vegetable garden for the first time this year I can say it's hard work but man is it great when you can harvest some of the stuff you plant! If I had to survive on my tiny garden I'd weigh about 120lbs hahahaha.
Just watch the media and even worse is insurance regulations along with gov. regulations. If you do something on your own, rather than hiring a "professional" you won't be covered. Ant the media just never promotes doing things on your own any more. As for gutting, hunting and firing a shotgun or rifle or pistol, those are great skills to have and it once was the norm for young folks to learn and do those things. Even my lovely wife was good. She had never hunted nor shot in her youth but that all changed when we got married. Although she did not do any gutting of deer, she did lots of things like chickens and rabbits, etc. She did skin all my deer after my hands got so bad and she enjoyed it. It was her who asked to do it just like asking to go hunting, with both bow and rifle. Also one of her great joys was working in the gardens and putting up the food. That started the first year of our long marriage.
Ive never seen it boxed like that. Always in stretch or shrink wrap when sold in this area. Amazing how lazy folks are these day when its just outside...even twigs just for kindling.
The powers of observation Must be pretty lucrative. Selling pine firewood to Coloradans is like selling sand at the beach. But I can’t hate them for it!
Rope Please tell me there isn't residents of Fairbanks that would buy that is there? I can see yuppy tourists scarfing them up though.
Fairbanks has highways, ticky-tacky houses in developments , even a Home Depot. There's no shortage of typical Americans.
The pallet didn’t look like anything was missing, but you never know. There is a large Army base a few miles away.
