    Well I'm guilty as well. My area in the back at storage that is now abandoned has wood from 4-5 years ago slowly going back to nature. Maybe a cords worth of white oak rounds that I could split for the heartwood. Maybe 2-3 cords of BL. At least the BL and WO is still good. I bit messy, but good.

    The yard gets very squishy so I cant drive back there even with a wheelbarrow. When its very dry or frozen I do.

    I messaged this guy early last Sept. Said I heat my family with wood and couldn't afford to pay, but I'd gladly clean it up for him. He came back with someone was interested all ready. That's fine, I didn't press. Well the same pic came up earlier this week. He started a new ad. I messaged back saying I noticed it still available from last year and that I would still clean it up before it becomes too rotten to use. Nothing yet..

    Well The Wood Wolverine it’s seasoning in log form, so where I am at we call that minimum of bark + 1 or 2 inches rotten, IME walnut not a great firewood anyway

    Ya know folks, one thing I'll say about around here, people don't want it to lay around and generally get it to the curb and put free. If wood sits to long around here, 2 things happen; 1st humidity starts the rotting process if it's on the ground and along with that, it's a "Termite" dinner bell and bug feast!!! Now, that's here and I'm not sure about other areas in the states. Here is BRUTAL with those nasty Bast@rds, so most people don't want laying wood around. :eek:

    does it matter the species to termites or if its damp wood they'll eat it. BW heartwood is very rot resistant.

    Well, basically any "bare" wood on the ground. I've had Oak pallets eaten in 2 years, the bottom wood literally falling apart. Several years ago, we had some Maple that rolled off the stacked pile, about an 10" round was eaten half way through. They don't seem to go to the Cedars but will eat the hell out of anything else. I had 2 @ 2x6's kiln dried on the ground and had some roofing shingles on them, they fell apart withing 2 years, so I really can't give you a correct answer. I do know they LOVE pallets!o_O *EDIT*, I can also say that, when I was stationed in Virginia, on the eastern shore, they were brutal down there as well...

    Here's a good link if you want to know anything about these little Bast@rds! My area here is in the medium to heavy area for termite. The more South you go, the uglier they get! Thank GOD we don't have fire ants here!

    Yep, come on down to GA. You can lay a SPF board on the ground, they will be munching on it in a couple weeks. I need to do a test on that...and we have fire ants and some kind of long skinny black ants that reproduce like crazy, sting like a fire ants, but luckily don't make a festered sore.
    And carpenter bees...:headbang::headbang::headbang:

    But we don't have to deal with 10'of snow...:hair::hair::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

    I guess having been born and raised in a cold climate I'll still take ten feet of snow over the heat, humidity and bugs. While in the Corps I spent enough time in southern states, as well as 'other' jungle and desert locations to know that despite some of the drawbacks of our long winters, I still prefer it.

    I believe I'm on your side with this! Where I live here is the "Crossroads" between North and South. We get the HORRIBLE heat and humidity in the summer and a minimal to moderate amount of snow. Some years we get hammered, others barely a flake. I hate the heat, my beer get's warm WAY to fast! :drunk:
    OH YEAH!!! Those are bad here also!

    I agree with above, why I live where I do. I can always through on coat or add wood to stove.
    I can only take off so much until indecent laws apply.
