Based on what he's done with the wood so far, talking to him would be extremely frustrating.

There was one right down the street from me. Red oak and beech. Cut down last year and sign posted. Half of it was processed and the rest has been sitting since. Tempted to ask. Drove by the other day and its gone. I see a good sized stack in back and wonder if they will actually use it or if the abuse will continue.

Some cherry will get heart rot, but others will be solid. I know ants love it.

Yup. My cut last week I discovered ants in the stump cut off while splitting. It was cold so they were moving in slow motion. They got the torch treatment.

I can attest to that, vast majority of Cherry I get always has ants. Cherry and Sassafras always around these parts have ants.

Yup, we had it here also. It wasn't real old, maybe 5 years o_O
X2! It's our soil...I can tell you this, you can't put a wood pallet on the ground down here, It's the dinner bell for termites and bugs, why I found me a stash of plastic pallets.

I am guilty of this too. I have more wood than I can process quickly. I have a pile of rounds by the house in the driveway, probably 4-5 years worth. Another pile of longer pieces that need to be cut in half, maybe another 2-3 years worth. Then there’s my log row, which is many years of wood. It’s about 70 ft long now I think, and about 6 ft high. 6-12 ft logs. Mixed wood. Oak, elm, hackberry, etc…

I see a lot of that. Now it's starting to look like compost after a couple of years.

Yup. Those, red maple and BL are the others ants seem to love.

I have been hoping to have a gtg to process some of it, but things are so crazy right now that I can’t guarantee a solid date. My wife’s aunt died last fall and we have been cleaning out the house and trying to find a buyer. We were hoping to be done by Jan, but that didn’t happen.

I would like to have a gtg around the middle of May. I just don’t know if something will come up last minute that will require my attention.

Many so preoccupied with getting over on someone that they are paranoid it might happen to them. :picard: I've tried to give away wood through the years but unless it's already split most don't seem too interested. A friend's new garage build is changing that. Finally have someone to 'share the wealth' with who's willing to get after it. I do get first pickins on the best wood. :handshake:

Me too! My issue is storage and I can just hold 3 years worth, 10 cord is my absolute limit. Id be stuffing wood in the driveway if I got any more than that. (That wouldn't go over well)...:picard::rofl:

Guilty as well. I have four stacks of logs that need to be processed (from 2024 & 2025) with a whole lot more waiting in the wings. I also have a bunch of 36" red oak rounds that have been sitting since 2001 (1st pic 2026, 2d pic 2021). Everyone has different priorities. I'll get to it when I get to it.
