little peek. painfully slow, but real happy with the way it is coming out. i have done the other 3 sides to nearly the same hieght.

was wondering what the heck ever happened to you and this fireplace build.....looking good my friend!!
Been hitting the build as much as possible over the last month. Usually get 90 minutes in the morning (6:45-8:15), then another 90 at night. Works out well as the mortar is tight but workable after a day or night of rest. Just placed blue stone shoulders this morning. Chipped/distressed the edges and am hoping my butane torch will be enough to pop the remaining saw cut faces. Looks like I am incorporating a water ledge fall down the rear of the fireplace now. Been crazy busy with multiple issues this summer. Graduating child heading for Auburn University just for starters. Miss this place though.

As you see there has been a couple small fires to temper the fire mortar and brick. There is still stone work going on above the blue stone shoulders. Last photo shows what will be a water fall ledge that will run down the middle of the rear side, into a pool. I was reviewing this thread and read an early post of mine. I laughed out loud. October 17th I posted that I hoped to have this done in a week or so. Too funny. On a more realistic note, it will be done in a week or so.....
Just discovered this thread. that is beautiful work. Sort of like a puzzle to put the rock work together. the colours must be awesome when the rock is wet. Will you use it for cooking with or just enjoy the fire show?
Just a light trickle like in a heavy rain. I don't anticipate the water affecting the stone or mortar. Just have to remember to drain the system come wood burning season. Wood stove season, that is.
One last update teezer. Fireplace is completed. She burns pretty well given the short stack. Only time I get smoke from the front is when the wind swirls. I needed this project completed for a party for my oldest son's graduation/going to college. Since I am a glutton for punishment, I decided to build a 16 ft diameter flagstone patio to finish off the deal. Found about 10k lbs of flagstone on CL for 350 bucks and jumped all over it. Around here each pallet of that stuff is about 350. Best estimate is that there was 6 or so pallets in the pile. Long day of loading though. Did I mention I am a glutton for punishment? Well, there was so much stone that I opted to build a retaining wall and create a nice level area behind and around the fireplace. There is about 80 feet of wall now, including a natural fieldstone stairway. It ranges in height from a single stone thickness to 26 inches. I thought the nice flat flagstone would be quick building. Not so much. I put sod around the new raised area (500 sq ft) and seeded the rest. Had to have sod for the party. So I am waiting for the seeded areas to grow in and the low voltage lighting install (by me of course) before I snap the final photos. They will include the pool table that is just off the wall. My son's idea. I loved it. I foresee a post/beam roof coming for that deal. Lights and protection from the rain/snow. Pics by next weekend.
Your last post makes me mad.....got us all hot, bothered and ready and then you shut the damm lights off on us with NO PICS........ Looking good, patiently waiting for finished pics.....for almost a YEAR now.....
