It’s hard to believe but Tuesday was the first time this year that I cut firewood for myself. I’m not going to make excuses so I will just say I have been spending time with other interests.

Oh I have cut some firewood for my uncle, I cut up a neighbour’s tree that came down in a storm and spent a few days cutting and splitting wood with a heap of good blokes and shielas in Michigan. But until Tuesday I had not added to my own hoard.

Monday was a beautiful day and I took my Mountain bike for a ride in the forrest, while I was out there I came across a couple of blokes from Forrest Fire Management Victoria, they had just finished dropping some nice eucalyptus trees for firewood collection.

So Tuesday I went out and had a play with my Husqvarna 550 mark 2.

The weather was perfect and the wood was as close to the track as it can possibly get.

I backed up to the first 2 trees and cut up the straight trunks and loaded them in the trailer then in full wood snob mode I cleared the next 2 off the track and backed up to the nice one in the picture above.

It too was soon dissected and loaded in to the trailer.

Then a nice drive home before the splitting and stacking begun.:axe::stacker:

Looks green, still springtime there? Great chance encounter with the forest rangers, now tell the truth, did you home in on the sound of chainsaws not too far away?

That's great that you got to finally cut some for yourself leoht. However, I have an idea that you were not exactly running out of wood yet. I've seen some of your wood stacks!

Looks like the loggers have finally left across the road. They left a lot of good wood for us! Probably after hunting season and after the ground is frozen someone is scheduled to do a couple of clear-cuts. I don't know how much of the oak they will take for chipping but we should still have lots of wood to get over there. 150 acres total with tops and logs all over the place. Lots and lots of good stuff besides the tops.

I've been hearing a lot of positives on the mkII. Makes me want to go cut. I've been busy too and haven't been out for a bit.

I'd love to know what that wood smells like fresh cut.

A while back someone had mentioned eucalyptus and i think it smells like menthol cough drops. It was a PNW member i think.

Yes Molly, you know me all to well. It was the siren song of a Stihl MS460 that lured me in.

Spring is just starting down here, my fruit trees have blossomed and my pin oak tree is just starting to bud. The forrest behind us is all evergreen trees, mostly stringy bark eucalyptus.

G’day and welcome to the club wheelhorseiron.

I was referring to the central Michigan get together hosted by Backwoods Savage. It was a great event with awesome people that I now consider friends or my FHC family.

G’day Dennis, Would that be the woods behind the clearing where we camped in the RV that they were logging?
