Well my plan to go get three tons at one time with my truck and trailer didn't match my budget. So I took my 1/2 ton Dodge to Earth Sense and got one ton of Uncle Jed's. While I was loading Jed came over to say hi… I asked him about business and he said it was OK… sure looked good as he had about 20 new Hormones sitting in the driverway and another eight of so getting their pre-delivery 'pre-burn'. I also asked him about the supply of pellets… he said he saw no problems and they should have enough for the season. I'm going to get another ton in a couple weeks and hope to have a third on hand by Christmas. Before I unloaded all the pellets I gave the stove a quick clean-up and did the "LBT"…
Thanks Pete… I've really ignored this truck for the last year… needs a little help. But it keeps on ticking (bad lifter!). I've been burning the local Marth hardwoods this season… still have the stove in my shop for now anyway. So last night I poured in the first bag of Jed's this year. Wow… what a difference. Better flame… more heat… and they just seem to last longer. Those Marth hardwoods barely fill the extended hopper on my house stove… stay about 6" down from the cover. These softwoods nearly fill the darn thing… more pellets=more heat and less $$$ spent I would think. I've noticed it in years past, too but I think Marth may be 'short filling' their bags this year… should weigh one to see. The real downside is they are more expensive, too. $243/ton for the Marth and $230/ton for the Jed's. And almost zero fines in the Jed's… those Marth pellets create a blast of dust when you pour 'em in... Now Earth Sense, my dealer, also sells the Marth pellet in their own bag… but I think they also buy by the carload and bag them in their own facility. BTW… you can see my LBT tool in the background in that first pic.
Wow......buying the Uncle Jed's instead of the Marth's seems like the way to go. And being an old school racer like me, I'm sure there's a grain scale somewhere in your race shop to check the weight of those pellets.
