I won't be able to make it out there as I have a prior committment, but I would like to send an item out for a prize for one of the contests. I just forged up something half decent this past weekend that can be quite useful for a bunch of members. It is nothing crazy, a little crusty, a lot re-purposed, but reeks of FHC. You guys are putting a lot of effort into this, and this is the least I could do to contribute to the event. If the members will accept it, I will gladly ship it out this week.
Welcome Ted. Your more than welcome. I have met with Carbine a few times and spoke on the phone several times. Any friend of his, is a friend of mine. Good people surround themselves with good people. Look forward to meeting you. This is gonna be a great time.
I would be proud to own something you made. As would every member here. That is very generous. Thank you
My Dad was a big time hunter/fisherman and raised German Short Hairs and Labs. He also did some field trial judging in the western NY region many years ago. We had an occasional oddball in the mix (Chesapeake bay retriever, American Water Spaniel), but concentrated on labs for duck and goose shooting. Had one that was outstanding on pheasant and woodcock too! Something about those woodcocks............ she would forget everything you taught her if she smelled one of those and would relentlessly pursue it!
All...I'm embarrassed to admit, but I didn't pay attention to where in Ohio this gathering is. My brother coming from Iowa said that with the 200 miles before he gets to me plus the 350, that was more than he wanted to travel. I'm scrambling to find anyone that I could meet up with in Indiana somewhere to share the drive...but I have not been successful. I have been to Ohio a number of times and driven through to PA before years ago, but I was thinking this gathering was on the other side of the state for some reason.... So, if I can't find someone from out west of Ohio to share part of the drive with...I may have to bail which I think is embarrassing. I even looked at flights last night and if I would have booked a month ago would have been less than $200 and then I could have rented a car in Akron, but now it's over $400 and that's too much money. I wish I lived in Ohio now...nearer the clustering of members in that Eastern area...
I drove to Chicago a few times years ago and as I remember, it was about an 8 hr drive from here, long haul.
Wow FC, $200 flight and it wouldn't even be worth driving out. Hope you decide to come anyways, any chance you could break up the drive a bit by stopping somewhere in the middle for rest?
I figure it would be at least 6 hours from where I am. I will think about it. I was hoping to hook-up with a traveler from out this way. Let's see if there's anyone I can get from here. I think there's a new member in Northern IL somewhere.... Calling out to Indiana / Illinois / Wisconsin / Michigan people. Anyone have any second thoughts about going?
I would definitely be comfortable buying a cheaper airline ticket when you factor in gas and potential hotel cost. That and you are not fatigued. Couldn't easily bring my 441 as a carry-on though.
JRSDWS lives south of Chicago? I don't think he had plans on coming. But he has a minty Husq 545, a closed port 55 Rancher, and a brand new 362C that would make him fit right in I will message him now. I have been wanting meet him for 3 years now. We have spoke on the phone and text each other all the time. Good dude.. And he breeds German short haired pointers (odd that it was just talked about above)
I'm game if I can find someone to share the drive and some of the gas too. I have the money...it's that drive that makes me nervous. My brother used to live in central PA, and I drove there in one night once. That was ok cause I stayed for a while. This is only one day event and potentially almost as much time in transit.
I was gonna wait.. But since I came home and this was on my porch.. I had to give ya'll a little teaser. Here is a little something shipped for the GTG. We need to give a big thanks to Terry Landrum. He sent a box of goodies for this event, which included T shirts, lanyards, files, hats, and placards There is one more thing he sent but I am gonna wait a bit before I post up a pic.
I have a few other things, but they are in the basement. Pics to come later. Here are a few things I will give away. The grinder I would like to raffle or sell, or who knows? Maybe after a drink in the evening I will give it away. I also have some of the softest gloves in the world, a tach/hour meter for any OPE (2 cycle or 4), a little pouch (I have one just like it to hold a scrench, file, a wedge, and a small tuning screwdriver), and two 20" Forester chains (.063).
