There is a narrow property just down the road from us with a creek running through it and they use to have a beaver problem. There is a lot of big cottonwood trees along the creek that the beaver would chew on and it would eventually blow over in the wind. The biggest problem was that there are homes right adjacent to this property and the trees would often end up blowing down on these other people's property (and homes). So the creek property owner had to try and stop this from happening. He hired a trapper, but he also wrapped stucco wire around the base of all the larger trees to prevent the beaver from gnawing on them. He Also had to hire a tree topper to come in and take down all the trees that already had beaver damage to them. I felt sorry for the guy because he didn't even live on the property, he lived in a town about 5 hours drive away and was coming out about every second weekend to take care of this property. Then I felt really bad when I noticed he wasn't coming anymore and I heard rumor that he learned he had prostate cancer. Then about a year ago I heard he had died. Very sad. I talked to him a couple times when I saw him out working on his property and he seemed like a pretty decent guy. He may have won his battle with the beaver, but in the end it was his own prostate that beat him. Here's a picture of the creek.
