I think my point was taken the wrong way .
Never said it cost less to run a coffee pot and toaster than my Volt .

Btw , the Volt can charge at 110 volts and use 8 amps or 12 amps on a 110 volt circuit . So yes , a 15 volt circuit on the 8 amp setting is just fine .

I’ll go at this from a different angle …..
How much electricity do you think we use “ off hours “. Say 11pm to 7am ? Of course this all depends on many factors like where you live , life style , numbers of people in household , etc….
In Wyoming almost 50% of houses use electric heat for instance . I doubt Mich is anywhere near that number and winters are probably similar .
The point is ( I can only speak for my 2014 Volt ) at night when there’s no tv on , no lights , nobody using the electric stove , no coffee pot , etc…..the Volt thru the settings waits until midnight to start charging . This obviously doesn’t put a huge load on the power grid . Not saying that we don’t need new grid before EV’s are much more common but at least we aren’t putting our head in the sand and starting somewhere .
I have no agenda , just see lots of misinformation posted about EV’s in general .

Wishlist Ok IDK much about EVs yet. My brothers MIL just got hybrid. I am learning and interested.
My comment was not about cost either. It was about amps.
Even if your particular EV can charge on 15 amp 110 volt circuit it still has to be a dedicated line. Meaning a separate circuit breaker.
My toaster and coffee pot are on same 15 amp circuit and often used together without popping breaker

Yep. And as far as I'm concerned there is nothing one should call "political" about this discussion. If someone wants to put sides to it they can but I think no matter ones political affiliation or opinion you can be in either side of this one and should be looked at it just as that a decision. We argue over stuff all the time, sometimes heated. Like should you tip cute ver a stack, can you burn pine it not, how long to season oak. Just politicians don't talk about it or have laws but I'd they did now these things become political?

For sure. My huge toaster oven and coffee maker which I don't drink coffee but wife does, are on same breaker along with other stuff.

My green instant water heater is electric it takes 40 double pole (240v) breakers. It demands up to 113kw when running the max.

And it would take forever to charge at that rate. I'm into electric golf carts. I have a 48v one. It's still got traditional Lead Acid batteries and with those your not supposed to go below 50% state of charge , if you do you lessen the battery usefull life or amount of charge cycles they can give. Anyway if I took my pack down to 50% and charge it back up useing my wall plug in 15amp at 48v charger, I don't feel like converting to 120v amps , it will take like 4-6 hours if I remember right to charge them up. I don't remember cause I don't usually have it go that far down.
