I actually had one come up to me like this when I was a teenager squirrel hunting once. Didn't lick my gun, but hung out by me as close as this for a bit checking me out, then just casually meandered away.
You would think that the pressure wave from a .308 would be enough to get a reaction from the deer. His other senses should be heightened if he is deaf. I can certainly feel it when a gun is shot near ( or at) me.
Not necessiarly. Years ago I belonged to a trapshooting club which was located in deer country. Everyday occurence would be to have 3 trap fields with 5 shooters each booming away and the deer would come out and graze on the lawn mere feet away from the shooters. The barrage of shots never even drew a reaction from them. No doubt this fawn has had human contact though.
