I've burned many cords of tulip poplar. (Was left laying 200 yards from my house after a logging operation) I wouldn't go 2 steps out of my way for more. It's just as much work as any good wood but about 1/8th the BTU's.
Yeah I really didn't want it but it was on top of the oak. I cut the oak as far as I could, than went after the tulip poplar to get it out of the way. By than I was beat and didn't plan on a mill coming in. What bites the most is this has been there since February. Guy was trying to get it moved by word of mouth.
I know the feeling. Had a huge log deck i was cutting from last year. Couldnt work it in the Summer due to the heat and came back after labor day and it was gone. Tough for us hoarders with only a PU and saw to do quantity. At least youll get some wood.
Went back tonight. Mr sawmill took the oak logs I was sawing on. So much for gentleman agreement. So I took a little oak and 4 rounds of maple. Have several of these waiting for me. This is the haul out (Sorry for full pics. I hit thumbnail)
