Have to agree. I have only had a few that were chewy (still good), but those were cooked up within hours of shooting them, before the meat had a chance to rest a bit. Same with venison. It has to sit preferably at least overnight to be more tender, even the tenderloin.

Also fish, If you fry them up while there is still some twitch in the meat, it will curl when frying, but still good.

Quail, pheasant, venison, rabbit. Have tried elk, duck. Didn't care for the duck.

I take a few now and again when I happen to jump some off a pond while grouse hunting. Personally I like a nice puddle duck cooked rare on the grill.

I have to admit groundhog is pretty good. Haven't had one since I was a kid though. My great grandparents fixed it for me after i shot it. I like pretty much any kind of game meat and will try pretty much any meat. Don't think I could do fox, coyote, skunk or the like.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of skunk.

I've wondered about polecat, but I think I'd avoid that too, if someone offered me some.

My favourite game meat is crocodile, it’s a white meat sort of like a cross between chicken and fish.

No particular order, just listing as I think of critters I've eaten that aren't usually available in a store. Alligator, crawfish, duck, deer, moose, bison, elk, caribou, multiple species of goose, jack rabbit, dove, cotton tail, Hungarian partridge, sharptailed grouse, swan, pheasant, pigeon, horse, sandhill crane, antelope, and that is all that pops to mind right now. And if you think you wouldn't eat it, make it into jerky or sausage and you'll love it.

I forgot all about Hungarian partridge. Those are good. We used to shoot them while pheasant hunting in SW MN. They are not as common now down there anymore from what I have heard.

I’m eager to try this one out. Really. The hunting for them looks hard, but seeing them cooked, looks like a great piece of steak. Thanks for your posts, now I’m hungry.

Give the ostrich a try, I have had good ostrich steaks.

Cocodile and alligator are nothing special to me. Best game I ever had was bushrat, in an African village.

I see this is an old thread that got resurrected but if you’re buying the “game” meat, pretty darn good chances it was raised and didn’t come from the wild.

Was thinking the same thing, a farm is a farm, irregardless of the critter being raised.

Personally, I've not tried a lot of game meat, mostly venison, rabbit (both cottontail and jack), squirrels, snake (unknown variety),
and my dad did cook up a woodchuck he shot, wasn't bad at all.

Not a fan of crawfish.. tried it once.. that's enough.

Haven't had bear or goose, but hear they can be greasy if cooked improperly.

Never took much interest in bird hunting, but my Pap did get a turkey on occasion for Thanksgiving, but that was a LONG time ago

    I'll eat most game fish
    :flipeggs:

Would like to try bison, elk, and moose sometime.
