    Vent 4" versus 3". Bigger inside pipe less chance of clogging up between cleanings, depends on pellets burned and cleaning ritual. Just less restrictions for better performance. My pellet furnace has a 3" outlet but I bumped it up to 4". Manufacturers should go to 4" if the appliance is a work horse, just saying! The less horizontal runs the better, ashes tend to pill up in the bottom of the piping.

    Q: What size wood stove do I need?

    A:
    Each wood stove typically comes with a rating for how many square feet it can realistically heat. Used this rating as your starting base and then take other factors into consideration too-- such as a high ceiling, old windows, an open or closed floor plan, and the draftiness of your home. It is better to get a stove that is too big than one that is too small.
