I helped one of the local cross country clubs with some trail work this fall. Was a fun day in the woods just burning saw gas and making noise. One of the trail planners had snapped this picture and finally set it to me the other day.
The last couple of hard rains hit the outside of this trail hard, in one stretch the ruts were down 8-10 inches. I did two loads of pine needles with one load of hemlock needles, I plan on doing 4-6 loads of pine needles tomorrow on this same stretch.
I did the six loads of pine needles today, a nice easy rain would be nice so it would pack it down. Next week I want to do another six or seven loads of pine needles.
One more load of pine needles this afternoon, the second picture is coming down. This Thursday they're calling for close to two inches of rain so some of this could get pushed down.

They'll turn into a fine dirt after a couple of years, it beats running the small chipper we have. Once we get rid of a big payment (two years) we would like a tractor with a chipper on the back, this is the one I looked at. http://mahindrausa.com/tractors/1500-series/1538-hst It's another big payment, so we'll see.
Two more loads of pine needles this afternoon, the third picture is coming down. Coming up the trail, I'll need to hit that right side again....all the way up.
I'll be doing some trail work not far from the house, removal of some stumps will be done so we can get the sleds through.
Some trail work today which included some stump removal, the last part was cutting up some smaller Cherry. Picture 9161 is before and 9162 is after.
While I was working on the downed Cherry I heard a crack, I turned around to see this top (popple) come down about 80 yards east of me. When I was raking up pine needles to put on the trail in the woods last week, I was working 8 - 10 feet from the spot it fell.
The saws are clean and they're ready to go for more trail clearing in the area I worked Sunday, we have some downed dead pine in that area I'll get before we bring the small chipper in, we'll chip up some of the smaller chit for the trails. We started the snowmobiles tonight, last year we got hit with 17-20 inches on Nov. 20.
Well, how far did you ride those machines last night? They will ride okay on pine needles. Even grass. I used to start ours a couple times every summer and take a very short ride around the lawn.
