Anyone own the extended hopper for furnace? I want to leave for a day or so and not have to play pellet filler!

In my case when the temps warrant the idling(#1 feed) during the going away, I do it. If not, the dinosaurus takes over at a reduce t-stat temp. 343amc has a extended hopper on his furnace if you need some info about it.

Been away for a few days. I do have the extended hopper. If I remember right, it brings the total capacity to 250 pounds or so.

It’s nice when I go out of town for a few days. Load it up and the wife doesn’t have to worry about refilling. Only downside is that the opening is pretty high. I’m 6’4, so it’s not a problem for me, but if my wife does have to fill it up she needs a small ladder.

I attached a couple pics for reference.

Thanks for the pictures. How easy is the modification?

It’s pretty easy. Take off the hopper lid and the extension screws down to the top of the furnace. The safety switch that kills the auger motor can either be relocated or bypassed. Mine was bypassed when I bought it so I left it that way. The lid fastens to the top of the hopper extension and you’re off to the races.

When I first got my furnace I took the extended hopper off as I didn’t think I’d need it. It didn’t take long before I put it back on. :)

I have an extended hopper on my old St Croix.... holds about 50 lbs of pellets total.... about 30 hours running + or - on setting #3.

My BIL chbryson has one as well. He loves it.

I have been meaning to buy one, but have yet to pull the trigger.

How the heck does he open the lid to fill it? :)

That’s about twice the height of mine. I have no idea on the history of mine - might have been altered at one point in its life.

I took the the hinges loose so I can unlock the lid and slide it loose from the hinges and then lift off flat. Holds about 5 bags total. I left on Friday night at 6 and came back last night at 6 and there were still pellets in the machine. We were about 45 deg when I left Friday down to the single digits and teens yesterday so it was definitely running while I was gone. T Stat at 70 deg for "home hours" 65 deg for "work hours and overnight" Left it in Draft 1 and Auger 1
