Is it me or is bar oil getting really tacky?

Man it creates a mess being so sticky.
Sticks to everything around the chain drive and then all kinds of stuff sticks to it.
Seems to be thinner but more sticky and tacky.
I need to stay away from all season bar oil as it tends to be thinner.

Any suggestions on a good bar oil that does a good job but doesnnt make such a mess.

Sometimes you can get too much of a good thing if you know what I mean.

If you don't mind the price tag Stihl's isn't as tacky. I ran it for several years but switched to Husky oil as it was a little cheaper. More tackier though.

Canola oil. Cheap, environmentally friendly, works great.

There are several "off brands" of winter bar oil.
It's not sticky at all in warm temps.
I'll mix it sometimes to thin oil for cold weather.

I wonder if they are increasing the tackiness to compensate for the thinner oil.

I have cut wood for 30 years so I have had my fair share of bar oil.

I bought this brand at Rural king as it was only 4.99 a gallon.

Sticky stuff ever and seems to leak out alot more than stuff I have used in the past.

Smokin from another site told me about Canola Oil when I started to mill with my chainsaw, I've been running it since.

If you're not diligent on cleaning your saws every day when you're done cutting, it can make a pretty hard mess with the sawdust. Not the big chips necessarily, but the fine stuff that accumulates under the cover.

I don't always have the time in the woods that I need, so spit shining saws often waits for another day for me. That's about the only reason I don't use canola.

Echo oil is really sticky. Dolmar is not as sticky. Husqvarna is in between. Lol. Stihl oil has to be easier flowing or else it wouldn't work in half of their saws.

I basically never clean a saw. I scrape the crud off when I swap chains and when I do something to it I will blow it off bit I work my saws and don't polish them either.

    Yup , I didn't like it one bit .
Since I only noticed it the next day because it was dripping out under the truck box I'm pretty sure whoever was behind me on the 20 mile trip to work that morning musta not liked their wipers either lol

I always buy the 4.99 rural king stuff.... seems decent to me.... or should I say I see no need to pay twice as much for Stihl bar oil.... I do however use Stihl ultra mix LOL!!!!!

when you started using the rural kind 4.99 did you notice the stuff leaking mor ewhen its hot and being that its so tacky alot more build up around the chain drive.

Now its not too big a deal for me as I clean my saws after every use but I was just noticing the change when I look around the chain drive area its like wow i dont remember
so much crud building u under there.

So I guess the quetion is how muck tackyness is needed.

Another way to look at it is the stuff is so cheap who cares just clean up the mess.
