I would caution against a complete reliance on that site to understand the Dark Night. There’s too much of an element at that site that seems to say the actual “Dark Night” can occur outside of a Christian experience. The Dark Night happens ONLY if and when the Triune God permits it for a soul, and that soul must be wholly interested and desirous of doing God’s Will above all else. That site blurs the line between the psychological and the truly spiritual in a way that could open up the unsuspecting to New Age influences, etc.

There’s a book by Reginald Garrigou-LaGrange called “The Three Ages of the Spiritual Life - Prelude to Eternal Life” that is the best summary of the subject written. It’s available online:

The Three Ages Of The Interior Life Volume 1 by Reverend Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange O.P.

Unfortunately it’s very long and deep and composed of three volumes.

There is fortunately also a very abridged paperback version of the same work called “The Three Ways of the Interior Life,” available here:

The Three Ways of the Spiritual Life

I would agree that site is not particularly Christian based. But it gave some direction that was supplemented by other sites.
I would add that seeking a good mentor or spiritual director would be the very next step once discovering the dark night. Not only would they be there for information, but as an authority under whose covering to be.
I am neither of those roles for the record.

Dittos. I’m well aware of the subject but as a spiritual Pygmy I don’t claim to have experienced it.
