sometimes you have to buck city hall, especially when you have a corrupt progressive one on the take from lawyers that are gaming the system for profit. We've been fighting the town, their lawyers and commercial developer lawyers for 5 years to protect our zoning laws that we fought decades for to protect our life styles and investments in our homes. Not only do you have to sometimes buck city hall but do it en masse so they fear losing their jobs to greed.
Burn that bark! I just cut a couple cords of Doug fir last weekend. The logs had been down and in a pile for a couple years. On the larger diameter fir, the bark slabs tend to just fall off while I'm noodling and/or splitting. In my region (PNW), the bark on Doug fir can be over 3" thick. The property owner (a friend of mine) said he'd just throw the bark on his burn pile, but I told him I'd take it with me. I'd bet that I got about a 1/4-1/3 of a cord in 1.5"-3" thick slabs of bark. It's also a win for me, because I really hate waste (in all aspects of life).
When I split green Oak most of the bark comes off so I burn it in the fire pit and it does create a lot of ash, it does burn really hot though.
Not tons of the stuff in any event. I used to split right inside the shed, but this year I had one extra row of wood, plus a deer, so any splitting was done outside.
