And no worries. You won't hurt my feelings. I'll not participate in the arguing. This site doesn't need that.
Or don't take my word for it and ask Kevin. He's been there since the beginning. Saw the vids, pics and some of the cylinders in person. He won't steer you wrong.
He told me Dominator is good. The YouTube guys port work may be the cause of the scratching, or other issues. It’s an old saw being disassembled and reassembled. Plenty of opportunity for grit to enter the equation. Once I’ve had my own long term experience with Dominator I’ll feel better, or I’ll ditch it for the familiar HP2
I know where you are coming from. I ran the same oil for 16 years before looking for a replacement. Only because the phones are disconnected and the website no longer exists. I originally purchased Motul 800 to use based on a YouTube saw porter on the west coast. Hotsaw101 I think it was. But, I got into the testing and moved on from that. I've been running Dominator for around 3 years now and so far I'm very pleased. I still am doing testing with it for rust prevention during long term storage, clinging abilities in storage ect. Then, two of the other 3 that smashed my testing are Currently mixed. I have Honda HP2 running in my ported Dolkita, Red Armor in another and a mixture of left overs in a cheap saw I ported.
One thing I've noticed about some oils is their light color makes it harder to see them hanging around inside an engine after setting so I'm dying them dark purple, with a petroleum dye, before for certain tests to keep a more even playing field as far as being able to see them goes. It definitely makes the oils stand out more if there's oil there.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/E6ktXWakiYehCuR86 This is the first saw I ported myself. Free to me cheap clamshell Homelite. 100% just for experimenting on. I put a new piston, ring, bearings and seals in it then hacked away at the ports and muffler. After breaking it in it ran a full gallon of Dominator mix @ 75:1. I mixed it at Kevins GTG and it was supposed to be passed around till the gallon was gone or it blew up. We never got enough time to do it so I took it to my neighbors and we blocked and noodled this big beech and some oak that was a bit smaller till the whole gallon was gone. It was pulling an 18" full chisel .325 Husqvarna chain. Tank after tank. Only shut off to fill or touch up the chain. It was running that mix in this vid. It had zero visible damage before or after. There are 3 other oils I've tested that I'm confident the outcome would be the same. Honda HP2, Red Armor and Castrol Go full mineral.
As to the original topic, keep doing whatever has been working for yourself. Long term personal experience with any product trumps anything written on the internet or posted on the YouTubes. Everyones environment is different. Not all engines are created equal even of the same model. There are always variables and outliers. I believe I'll move along now.
I've been using Red armor since it came out no issues. Saws were tied on my flatbed and I ran into the gas station. I came out and a older farmer was looking at them and asked "when did Stihl start making diesel saws ?".
I googled best 2 stroke oil for chainsaws and this old thread came up. Did he get banned for his oil fervor? “The Best 2 Cycle Chainsaw Oil”
The real issue I took with the comparison, was the fact the saw wasn't tune for the mix, that can make a huge difference.
I always thought Mary Ann was the one!! Country girl.... I'll bring the hay. I like the little sidetrack in this thread.
Wellll....Back to gasoline . My position is that corn squeezins is for drinkin and gas is for burning in engines . That said, after issues with ethanol gas in small 4 stroke and 2 stroke engines, I went ethanol free many moons ago and never looked back. It's a bit more expensive but not replacing fuel lines, primer bulbs and carb kits any longer so that makes me happy ! To each their own! Enjoying the discussion!
I just purchased a Stihl MS171 Just joined the Stihl club by purchasing a new MS171 When I went back they told me about the ethanol before I used hardly any of the regular gas! So I purchased the Stihl MotoMix and I said I will always use it. Then I found out luckily by using it, I was eligible for the new Stihl promotion where if you use the No Ethanol Stihl MotoMix they will double the warranty to 2 years!! Minimum 93 Octane! To me that was enough said!!
