Friday, a group of guys who meet for lunch had a Zoom lunch. It has been fun since some of the group had moved away, so they got to join in. on of the guys mentioned he bought battery powered trimmer and blower, and was taking offers on his Stihl gas units. I got them both for a total of 75 bucks. Both are fairly new. This motivated me to get my big Stihl and Echo blower going. Both needed new carbs which I replaced. Neither would start. Visited YouTube and some burly no nonsense guy showed how to get “new carbs or non running carbs going”. Did what he said- turn high and low all in and back out 1 and 1/4 turn, then fine tune. I always figured I would mess a carburetor up beyond return. By gosh both of them immediately fired to life, and the adjustments worked out well. Feeling pretty good in the power equipment side of things.
My guess is you also could have repaired the carb pretty easily and cheaper, depending on what you bought for a replacement. Don’t throw the old carbs out! For $10 and a little more YouTube, you can have like new carbs for back or parts in case you decided to do a little more repair work later.
M2theB I have a couple of carbs, but I can get backups for about ten bucks, if I am patient and get them directly from China.
You did better than i did. I changed the air filter on my little Husky arborists saw and had to readjust the carb. Followed OEM directions to a T and it would bog in the cut. Gave up after 15 minutes of tinkering. I dont have the patience for it! What model saw did you get and G4U for getting them going?
Good advice. I had bought a Chonese aftermarket carb for my 460 couple years ago when i first got the powerhead. Had a guy put it in. Saw ran good, but later gave me problems. Finally took it to a Stihl dealer. He showed me the carb issue...an extra hole with nothing attached to it and asked if i had the old one, which i did, Needed a carb tune up kit. He put the old one back on with kit and i was GTG.
