Frankly when we finally got a woodstove with glass a high flicker or even the orange glow across the room startled me for a split second every time I caught a glimpse at first. We'd never had glass before. That said, for whatever reason she does not want glass, I had a fence (large baby gate) around all of our wood stoves when kiddo was a toddler. Toddlers fall. I know what happened to our first kittens paws when he jumped on our wood stove....

I worked from home today, so she won't see this thread until tomorrow. I believe she'll be Ok with glass after reading these posts.
If she has questions I'll post them. Thanks all, good stuff.

Sure is, I was cringing when he was smacking that glass with a 2x4 just waiting for it to break.

I've had a door glass break twice, in the same stove. The first time was when the stove was new, on it's fourth or fifth day of being used. The second time was several years later in the middle of Summer when the stove was clean, cold and empty. One long crack top to bottom in what might have been the same place both times.

Sounds like a design issue...or a defective door in the way that the glass was held in that individual door...

The first time the stove dealer replaced the glass and door with one from the showroom floor. The second time I had them replace the glass for $$$$. Only thing different I noticed was they put new clips/retainers that were just a little bit bigger. The other thing I noticed the second time the glass cracked was the window was a tiny bit loose, as if the gasket shrinks or compacts with age. I don't think enough to affect draft but it was getting close. They didn't have the ceramic glass in parts stock so they must not sell/replace enough of them to warrant inventory.

I would ask Woodstock if they have any in storage or if they know if any of their workers refurbishes them on the side.

I see them pop up on CL and FB market place very often around here. OP is out west so probably not too many around. Worth taking a look and to also contact Woodstock as Rich mentioned above.

They got back to me yesterday and said there are no Classics available and they do not make stoves without the Glass fronts.

Mine is a epa slow combustion stove works great. it a drolet sawman( i think). I prefer to not have glass either as its in my basement and I dont sit down there. I also have it hooked up to my ducting so I can heat the entire 2800 sq foot house
