Yesterday morning the temps were a balmy 20 degrees when I work. Picked up my brother-n-laws truck to go get a ton of Envi-blocks. It's a 13 year old Chevy 1500. I put 1/3 of the blocks in my wife's Ford Explorer and the rest in his truck. It worked out really well. After driving his truck I really like it, and I am going to see how much he wants for it. He bought a new Chevy 2500 HD. Very nice. The wood stove is going, and the downstairs is a nice temp. Happy to finally have a ton on hand to run the stove at night and the am. That should keep us going until beginning of January. We'll go sometime late December for another ton. Brought the blocks home, started bringing in 10 blocks at a time in the wheelbarrow. Takes a bit of time navigate the steps coming into the house. After third or fourth load, I decided that I'd just carry three or four packages at a time. 15 packages per row. 7 rows per ton. Ended up carrying the vast majority of the blocks in and my wife and youngest daughter stacked them in the house. Worked out well, and I got a bit of a workout. Jason from RI
1. Good idea to split the weight of the load like you did. 2. Every wood burner should have a truck, no? 3. Regarding the wheelbarrow and steps....were you really using it on the steps? I can understand why that would take a bit of time to navigate!
It's a granite step up from the driveway. Only the one. The another half step into the house. Still a pain navigating the wheelbarrow into the house. A smarter man with more time would have a simple ramp system to make the process much simpler.
Yes they do. Especially when you plan to get to the gym today. Instead I spent the afternoon putting together a health binder for my dad which organizes his doctors, meds, chemo appointments, radiation appointments, other doctor appointments, nutrition guides and such. He'll be able to carry the 1" binder with him to appointments to help keep everything on track. I'll be there some of the time, but there will be times when my son or his girlfriend take him. The binder will be kept up to date to make sure he has the most current information. He starts treatment on the 20th, and I wanted to make sure he had this in hand for anything that might come up this week.
Aweso Boy best prayers to your father. That is a hard road. The binder is a Fantastic idea. I work in healthcare in the orthopedic side of things and LOVE it when prople are organized and armed with their own info. In fact just this morning i got woke up with a overnight nurse calling about a back brace. Simple info, no biggy, but had already given it to them, same nurse even. Sometimes even the medical practitioners can't be depended upon to reliably communicate info. I love the binder idea to keep track of it all.
Thanks. He's nervous and overwhelmed with everything thing. I thought the binder would help make things easier for him, and myself. The more more I've thought about the binder since making it, the more I realize how it would it would help so many. Not something I am thinking of making money on.
That binder is a great idea. Now I hope the Drs. utilize it. Only one step? Thats a breeze! I can understand why you tried now. Could've just placed some wood chunks or even a few enviro blocks to adjust for the height difference.
The binder is for my dad to bring with him for himself. Sure the doctor's can look at, but it's mainly for my dad to keep everything on his side organized.
One ton is equal to one cord. With our weather this year, we should get through November and most if not all of December. Just depends on the temps. The blocks are so easy to light we let it go out during the day with no one here. My wife gets home at 4pm and starts the wood stove. We run it from then until I leave at 7am. I'll get another ton most likely mid December. We'll burn 3-4 ton this year. I'm still been procrastinating on cutting my log pile and getting my 3 year plan in place. My sone and I will cut this pile and most likely burn that next year. Buy another load load of logs to give me a solid 4 cord for next year, and 1 cord for the following year. Then I can start to spread out the loads a little. $250 for a load of logs averaging 2-3 cords. Goal is 16 cords on hand. 4 in front. 12 in the back. While I love this Envi-blocks, at $295/ton X 4 = $1180/season is a bit much. Compared to $500 for two loads of logs. Plus time spent with my son. Jason from RI
