Firstly, no pics, but it did happen. Unless the kid watching loads a youtube vid. On my way to go hunting for the last hour of the day when I drove by some cars parked awkwardly on the side of the road. People standing and looking at a deer caught in some fencing. Just so happens I had my cordless sawzall charged and on the truck. I pulled over, loaded a metal blade on the saw and went to the scene. A spike buck had gotten his horns wedged in the chicken wire about 5 feet off the ground. He could reach the ground with his rear hooves, but was mostly being held up by the fence. He was covered in drool. I went to his right side and tried to get the saw on his antler. Hit the trigger and he hit the ceiling! Kicked me right in the thigh. Also wedged his rear legs in the fence and is now really tied up. I moved to the other side and started to cut. I yelled to the bystander to clear out. Turned him into a unicorn and he hit the ground running. One thing I did not think about was the traffic. Thankfully, no cars were passing by when he crossed the road. Watched him run out of sight. Looked like he may have only been hung up for 10 or 15 minutes based on the amount of scuffing on the ground. I did not hear any shots as he entered the woods either. That or the car hitting him would have been a downer, but it all worked out. Pretty cool. Proceeded to my hunting land and tried to kill one! No such luck. Have another story about that for later.
Last day to hunt is typically around Feb 20th. To figure out what you can hunt with and what tags/permits you need I will have to refer you to my lawyer's office.
Would have been an opportune time for a spear kill - yeah that's a legal means of taking in AL.... It's funny how most folks think hunters kill everything, actually probably the best stewards of the land and game are hunters - good on you
