The collar on that looks like the collar that I loosened the set screw on to slid the igniter out. There was another plate on the igniter without a screw. Kinda like a fused washer

You wouldn't need the collar as long as there is a collar and setscrew on the stove to secure it.

That's water I am thinking. The only thing it does is prevent me from sliding the igniter in to far I believe. I will take picks next time intake it out.

My new one definitely had no collar, it was just the cartridge.

I like it! That's what I will call it for now on.

So to put a nice little bow on what I learned here is the collar is welded to the igniter tube which is held in place with a 5/16 screw. The retaining ring for some reason is part of my igniter but I don't care for it and have deemed it useless.
You and Smokey are very helpful but also very cheap. Did i miss anything?:drunk:

Yes, you need to talk to Mike about the other hole ( normally used to compensate for high altitude ignition issues.)

That is so you don't insert it too far. IMO, you don't need it....just measure the depth that the original ignitor goes into the holder tube, mark it on the new one, insert to that mark & tighten set screw.

Not an authority on this, but when I asked here previously I was told when the igniter goes, it just dies; it does not slowly go bad over time. I've never had one go, so can't say for sure from personal experience. I do keep a spare igniter on hand just in case though...Out of curiosity, are you having the slow ignition issue with multiple kinds of pellets? Prob silly, but just trying to rule out the fuel.

I've seen a few that the middle section glows but the tip is cold. Granted they aren't stove ignitors but heating elements in plastic injection. We mostly use band type heaters but have a few elements in the die heaters. Some have sections of the heater that don't glow. Usually do an Ohms test compared to new elements to compare. Once they start dropping heat or OHM to high we swap them.

Maybe we should start a list of OHM readings on good ignitors and log them for reference? Might be useful reference for trouble shooting them.

I have only used Nature's Own so far this year. No ignition issues with the West Point so I think it is an EP issue.

There are two types of cartridge units one is swagged there are multiple sections in parallel one goes temp drops, ohms increase, longer ignite time. The other just croaks.

Speaking from personal experience, they CAN partially die. The original unit that came in my 10-cpm quit working on half the length. Still lit the pellets, but took a long time (up to 10 min.). New one had fire in <3
