Started burning some Siberian Elm last night that's been split for a little bit over a year. Pretty bad. The stuff I had earlier this season that sat for two summers was way better. The thick spongey bark traps too much moisture underneath, even with the stacks being covered.
Here’s a couple shots of my elm score today. I cut on this guy’s place several years back. Got all that was dead/down, then forgot all about the place. Last week he seen me stacking some at work so he stopped. Offered me a bunch of cottonwood which I politely declined. He said “it’s the same trees you were cutting last time, maybe it is elm. I don’t know my trees. A bunch more died and I pushed them over. I’m gonna burn em. If you want em have at it”! Bark falling off, back the pickup right up to it, no clean up to speak of! Don’t get much better in my area
Worked up some big elm rounds on Sunday. Wasn’t as dry as I thought it might be. Had to start a new stack because I don’t think it will be read for next season. Time will tell
