Mine runs on a 50' 12ga. cord. Never a problem. I would guess that it is powered up for less than 50% of the time when I'm splitting. Because they don't run continuously, neither the cord nor the breaker heat up significantly.
That is a piece of green ash. I have about 5 more slabs stored in the garage and the bench will stay for my splitter bench. To the left of the bench is some lodge pole pine waiting its turn. Thanks.
That is the electric splitter I have. I got it second hand but it was only used little. The guy wouldn't come much off the price but it was the only one I saw listed on CraigsList. It does a pretty good job but mine when it would stall in a split had to be turned off to reset the pressure relief.
Just ordered the BOSS 7 Ton. It'll be here in a week. Going for that three year supply this summer- got in over my head with the maul and splitting axe only. Looking forward to having another tool in the arsenal.
I have the Boss 7 ton, great machine. I picked up the log table, and leg extension kit, both are worth the extra money. I also have the 4 way wedge, don’t use it as much. Also replaced the small handle with a length of threaded rod so I don't have to bend down as much..
Do you have any advice on what you wouldn't send through it? Size / knotted / crotch- or does it pretty well handle what you throw at it? Accessories look good- I'll have to test the waters!
It has blown through just about everything I could lift onto it size wise. It has gone through some tough crotchets/knots some times and other times it could not, but overall it’s a pretty tough machine. You won’t be disappointed.
So I got the 7 ton- not a whole lot to figure it out, but I do have one question. When I run it and the piston gets about halfway down the run it kind of stutters or chugs, but returns smooth and otherwise doesn't seem like there's any issue. It does this regardless of their being wood on it or if its empty. Any cause for concern or is it just the way it is you guys think?
What I have found with my electric splitter is this. On some pieces that are tough I would end up splitting it from both ends.
Might wear in and be fine, might not...I think I might call them with your concern...how long is the warranty?
These pictures were taken 9 years ago and this Ryobi splitter has had the green power switch on the motor changed once. Woodwidow's mother who is now 95 uses it to make kindling with it !
I had the same problem, You have to pitch/slope your splitter toward the rear (If I remember correctly) put a piece of 3/4” plywood under the front legs and try it out. And make sure the wing nut, bleeder valve is open. I believe it’s in the manual. Found it under troubleshooting section.
