My wife's air fried pork chops with a crispy "batter" are absolutely delicious. We just had them the other day. It's basically like shake n bake. If you remember that. There's a planned over 1 left for a pork chop sammich. I think I posted the recipe on the air fryer thread. My wife's air fried chicken she makes is awesome too.
My grandpa saved the bacon fat by pouring it in a ramekin. He's keep it in the fridge, and he'd spread it on bread like butter. He called it "goose grease" lol
We had an air fryer gifted to us when I bought this place. Maybe a year later, we finally (we as in 99 lbs) finally got around to trying it. We like it! That being said, there is still certain things that can't be beat once you've had them from a deep fryer! Tried saving the oil for re-use here also. But.......sporadic use of the deep fryer.....and I mean months into years between uses.....and saved oil wasn't so appealing as new oil was! Sure would be nice to have a real good and easy doughnut recipe.
We don’t deep fry much at our house (though I do like to). Our KofC has fish fry fridays during Lent and serve a lot!!!!! of fried fish and fries. We fry them in different fryers so as not to contaminate the fries oil in the event someone has seafood allergies. We filter and save the oil and get two weeks use out of the oil. Any more than that and it’s got too much “stuff” in it to filter well.
Lol, could be, not familiar with them. This case happens to be a man that taught himself to cook and this is how it turned out I try to do the french toast and pancakes when I can, but thankfully the delicious omelets he uses bacon grease from that morning. Phew
Thanks JD Guy . 2 weeks is different deal, we'd end up with new oil anyway. Yes he likes to fry, but usually longer than 2 weeks in between.
An air fryer is NOT a fryer. It's just a miniature convection oven. It can be convenient to use instead of a much larger oven and I use mine for things I might use the big oven broiler for. It actually does a small single serving of french fries pretty good. And yeah deep frying oil and Crisco aren't "cheap"any more.
Onion rings or fish will necessitate a change. Otherwise good for at least a few fries. If you want the absolute best tasting deep fried foods....use beef tallow (expensive). It's what Rotten Ronnie's used to use to make french fries before their food went to crap. Grew up using crisco (the solid kind, not as good as tallow, but better than canola). Frier left to cool for a while, lid replaced and stowed in a cabinet until next use.
