Not that much pressure. I agree consistent angle is the name of the game. Also I mean with a regular stone not a diamond stone.
Although this isn't an EDC. I ended up with two of these recently. I do take one hunting with me, 'cause you never know
mattjm1017 and splitoak the company decided we get to keep our hook knives. For now at least. Would have been a sad day if they took them from us. Never took a picture of the one they wanted to give us, nor can I find one online. Imagine a curved butter knife basically.
O.K., I know this is an old thread, but someone refreshed it. I have a VERY STRONG BIAS when someone asks about a "hunting knife," especially when they want one to do anything from waterfowl to deer. I STRONGLY recommend WAYNE HENDRIX knives, specifically his "Model #11" custom semiskinner or his "WDH#1," These are the exact same knife, the #11 i,s made from slightly better steel and you can choose a custom handle material; whereas, the WDH#1 is 440c (standard, high quality, stainless knife steel) with a standard black micarta handle, basically great performance at a GREAT PRICE. I purchased a #11 before the WDH#1 was available and it has been my go to knife ever since. Many of my friends have purha, ed WDH!1's and all of them have been COMPLETELY SATISFIED. FWIW, if you call, Wayne or his wife will answer the phone. That's because, that's the entire company!!! If your budget is slightly more flexible, you cannot do better than Dozier knives. My favorite all purpose is the D-8 simiskiner. However, all are great and ll are designed for function first
Maybe I had too grand of expectations but I can not believe how disappointed I am in the whirlwind. I have carried it every day for six months and still miss my gerber gator. The assisted open doesn't seem as responsive or solid as it should be and the liner lock is inferior to a lock back. Thinking of ordering a Gerber that's half the price and relegating this one to tool box duty. :-(
Which is your preferred carry method for the ESEE? I was looking at a CRKT mini bowie as something small, light and easy to carry, but needs no effort to open it. It has multiple carry options with the sheath. Just something to carry cause I work in some rough spots and can't pack.
The ESEE is a very nice knife. Lightweight yet solid, and the ring helps with retention. As for how I carry it, that is its down fall to me. I carry off side appendix behind my belt. I wish the sheath had provisions for more of a horizontal carry that would be me preferred method. It is light enough for neck carry, and the kydex sheath is more than secure for it.
I've really enjoyed reading through this and realized I'm not alone with my knife addiction. Here are some I carry. Camillus Cuda, SOG Flash, Timberline, Schrade, Gerber Harsey Air Ranger, Kershaw 3/4 Ton.
I used to have a SOG Flash and I loved it but I lost in in an alley in Philly I picked up a couple of those kershaw 3/4 ton a year or so ago for dirt cheap gave one to my brother in law and was carrying one everyday until the pocket clip got caught on a desk and was bent really bad. I tried to fix it and only ended up with the knife in pieces its sitting in my drawer awaiting the time to be put back together.
My favorite hands down is the SOG Spec Elite followed by the SOG Pentagon Elite My spec skinned and butchered two bison three deer and a full year of use before needing to be sharpened. They are tough as nails. The lock mechanism is fantastic and super strong. Never any hint of failure even putting full weight on it. Light for its size, pockets very well. Handle grips well in wet and has great balance. I find it very versatile tool.
Got the little CRKT that I wanted from my boys for xmas. Was hoping for a horizontal carry but its a little more noticeable than I wanted. I'm a kinda little fellar. Went vertical carry and it rides high. Can't even notice it when my shirts untucked.
Don't know how I missed this thread. I've been carrying this critter for several months now. Good knife that is pretty cheap $40... Link - Gray Aluminum BlackWash™ | Kershaw Knives
It seems to be holding up pretty well. No rust. It had a "patina" of small scratches right out of the box. I've added a few...but they look normal.
