What? Table reads just a few inches from the walls in the diagram, whats it the 24" note on the bottom? (taken from the manual) Note: We recommend leaving 24″ on each side of the stove and 12″ at the back of the stove in order to facilitate access for maintenance. We are putting this in a corner, totally new installation. I now question how far out from the wall(s)? Especially since we are cutting a new hole in the roof. Thank you for any input.
Use the charts in the manual for minimum distances. Dimension C is 3 inches minimum, Meaning you can't go any closer than 3". To be safe I'd add a couple of inches, But if you have room? I'd add enough so you can squeeze by to work on the unit. No way in heck could I squeeze in a 3" space!! Dimension D is the minimum distance the venting requires. You'll need to look it up in the venting your going to use. Again I'd add some extra clearance for safety sake.
They are just saying the more room you leave around it the easier life will be when you eventually have to service the unit. But you could do the bare minimum the manual requires.

Thank you. It will be further out from the wall than minumum clearances. 1) for servicing, and 2) to accomidate the funky trusses for the exhaust pipe, we are going straight up.
Dear Husband found some 20" x 20" porcelain tile on sale. There were only 9 tiles left to purchase so we will take our chances on not breaking any to create a 60" x 60" base. We have not had much porcelain breakage vs ceramic in our previous diy experiences and will only need one cut on the outtermost tile. Wish him luck Its nothing special, a warm colored travertine look alike, but will blend well with our other colors. Getting closer every day!
yea, cant stress enough how important it is to leave room to service the unit! The more the better! Also something to be said, Wild, for having that K5 with that many miles....impressive.....says a lot for your service regimen.....and, lucky you, they don't salt the roads out there, do they? Here, the road treatments eat up all our vehicles.
Thanks Lousy, good truck! Interesting, we bought it used in 1990, dealership sticker on rear said Michigan, and there were rust repairs on panels. I grew up in Colorado with sanded roads, then they began using mag chloride. Not sure what they use in Wyoming?
Haha, tile is laid. Umm, its not as good as his usual good taste, reminds me of the 70's but small area and not unbearable. He cracked me up. I walked in last night and had to study the tile he put down with sticks standing up in it. Our tile spacers are packed away somewhere in our belongings so he used the butt end of shims to space. Hey, whatever works!
