This info from a very good longtime local met. Don't talk to me about the gloom lol. We own it. Cloudiest place on Earth last week. Tell me why I live here again? Here in G.R. we’ve now had 9 straight days with 0% sunshine, 13 of 15 days and 39 of 60 days since 12/1 have had no sunshine. We had 9% of possible sunshine in Dec. and just 12% in Jan. We had more sunshine last June 17-21 than we’ve had in Dec. and Jan. combined.
But this part is normal. We just do not get a lot of sunshine in late fall and winter. Usually starts getting better around March 1.
According to the local paper, heating degree days are about 1000 less than average for this place. It has been a warmer than normal winter.
I'm really thinking that I'm going to get through this year, with what's left from last years "row" Pretty weak winter for cold & snow this year, like last year. We did get a nice 24" snow in late Dec. but mostly rainy, sleety crap for the past month.
It's been pretty mild here in Central Mass as well. I'm at about a cord and a half burned so far so a little less than average.
Gone through a little over a cord and a half so far. Way more cold starts than last year. Two years back I had the stove going 24/7. Had to even open windows this season. Burning oil to fill in on the less cold days.
We are about halfway through 7 cord. About the same as the last three winters, but this one is colder, quite a bit colder. The upgrades (insulation, new EPA stove) are paying off, both in greater comfort, and in wood consumption.
Cold, but not as cold as we've seen here before, and much less snow, WOO HOO!! This last month has been bad winter, but I will gladly take a scant month or two instead or 6!!
It is beginning to sound as if February may be colder than normal with more snow too. This ought to make a few happy and a few others ticked.
